Lets not forget that WAR is focusing mainly on PVP and RvR which is not something AOC can be so so so proud of. Since seems like AOC has a great PVE side and a solid PVP.

I can't agree more. If AOC becomes a huge success, then WAR really has to stand out in it's genre, or else just be another WoW - clone with a twist.

A person playing and loving a game which follows the very same design direction as WoW aught to be mindful of throwing the "WoW-clone" talk around so readily.  I have turned my attention AWAY from AoC because its devs have proven to me that they wish to direct this game in a way that I found too similar to the gameplay I left when I left WoW.

Second, AoC will never BE a huge success.  It is not nearly hardware-accessible enough to be one.  I'm sorry, but even if its the best game ever made it will only be a niche game at best.  The huge number of players in WoW aren't likely to spend 700-1000$ on a new system for a 50$ game that comes with a 15$ a month subscription.  This is just the cold, hard truth.  I'm willing to bet a massive chunk of WoW's players are only PLAYING the game because its the only MMO with decent gameplay and upgrades that their PC can support.

WAR actually has nothing to fear here at all.  What they are targeting, and what AoC are targeting, are two different people really.  Oh, and WAR is far more hardware-accessible too.  So even among the "God I wish I had a pretty MMO" crowd...there are gonna be a few who take WAR over AoC because they can actually run IT and its still better looking than WoW.

It is all vaporware until I see it go live!

AOC's game design is quite a bit different from WAR's especially where the end game is concerned.

AOC is trying to be all things to all players.  They plan on delivering a strong PVE experience including end game PVE raiding a la EQ/WOW etc.  They also plan to have border kingdoms, with PVP/sieges being the primary focus.  I believe there is a plan for a fairly strong crafting system and they will offer a FFA server ruleset.  They've also focused on delivering a superior graphic experience at the risk of losing the players with lower end machines.

With so many different directions to focus on, its hard to actually be the master of any of them.

Contrast this with WAR.  The focus is on PVP.  Not just at end game, but all throughout the game there are provisions to PVP at all levels, on a very competitive level (not just a big gank fest).  It uses an RVR approach, which encourages more of a "our team vs their team" mentaility and makes players really feel like they are "part" of their realm.

Sure, WAR has some PvE, but mostly to give folks a break because all pvp, all the time is relentless, and not always possible.  Besides, most of us like to do some PVE from time to time.

Crafting?  WAR might have some, but Mythics made it pretty clear, crafters should not expect much depth in this area, Orcs don't make doillies.

And the end game...thats's whats really different.  WAR only has 40 levels?  Why? Because it probably will have 100 levels of realm ranks (or whatever they decide to call them) with a deep set of skills and abilities that can only be obtained by advancing to ever ranks by successfully PVPing.

This change in focus is completely different from AOC and what really sets the game apart from everything else out there, which any former DAOC fan will tell you.

Both games have their niche to fill, and I think there is plenty of room to succeed.  Being a fan, obvoiusly I think WAR will do better, but of course that's just my opinion.

But first... Mythic/EA have to actually release the game...something AOC certainly has the lead in at the moment.

OP, revisit your own post in about 72 days from now.

AoC has 3 things against them.  WoW is crack and people will get sucked back in especially with an expansion coming.  WAR beta/release is nearly upon us well.   Both can run on anyone's current machines.

Like I said, we'll know a lot more on AoC's chances in about 72 days.

i think i speak for everyone when i say wtf?

WAR is the most aniticipated MMO in history imo, AoC was always 2nd choice for me for WAR because combining Warhammer and DAoC is possibly the best idea for a MMO.

1 good patch = EA Mythic sayin 'bugger me, might aswell quit now'

i dont think so

ill vote this for most naive post in history award!

When I started play the AOC Open Beta I was very doubtful if the game would ever hit
the market. Crashes, stuttering .. you name it. But now after the latest patch,
I get goose bumps when playing AOC. Oh god, this is truely a huge step in the MMORPG
industry. Funcom promised us something revolutionary, new and fresh, and they really
kept there word.

Another game that I'm waiting for is WAR. I really loved DAOC. But since EA is the main
owner of Mythic, I'm really worried if they will cancel WAR.

Why !? Well perhaps some of you remember the MMORPG Earth And Beyond. EA decided to cancel
the game even though it had subscribers and was a good game (for that time period).
For EA it was all about money.

When (If) WAR is released it has to compete with not only WOW, but AOC and Aion.
And for most of you playing the Open Beta AOC with the new patch, you know how
good the game is now.

What do you think ?

Wow this really takes the price of dumbness. congrats!

Some of these threads are hilarious.

EA won't cancel WAR.

AoC will be fine if they fix their issues and really learn to listen to customers.

Calm down.  All of the negative press for AoC isn't going to stop the game from coming out.  No need to bash other games to mark your MMORPG territory.

Add a few sticks of RAM, get rid of Vista and install XP SP3, and maybe install a gamepad controller... and you're set for AoC, baby.

The only issue you may have are bunny-hopping arsehats.  Deal with them however you see fit.

IMO you're confused.

Mythic probably postponed WAR in an agreement with Funcom. There was simply no point in those two games playing competition while the bear is in the room. Mythic got its 6 months more to polish and Funcom got a level playing field for release. If WAR released at the same time as AoC did then it would probably turn ugly for both games - usually people don't purchase 2 MMOs at the same time... this way both will get at least a chance that all the players tired of WoW will try them out.

When will you people get it that Mythic and Funcom aren't enemies? They are pals, colaegues and they probably know each other. They won't be "stealing" from each other because it is quite obvious that both games are geared at different types of players, different gear setups etc. And besides, there is plenty of subscriptions to be stolen from WoW - the real competition. It would be dumb as hell if they were trying to get each others subs - they are after WoW's subscribers and new MMORPG players.

No, AoC could be the second coming delivering all the stuff they promised perfectly and I'd still play WAR, regardless if I'm already playing AoC as well. It is a different game and it suits my schedule and playing style better.
