Just ignore zelpher - His opinions on AoC is clear in every post he makes and he has a right to that opinion. The opinioin of the state of AoC doesn't really connect to the this topic of MMO market saturation as it relates to AoC's timing of its release. |

This is probably as good a time as any for Age of conan. There is a lot of crap games out there, some not so crapy, some good and few great ones. From what i have played in beta, this game will be popular enough. Hopefully Funcom will do the smart move and open with a limited amount of servers, though making enough to keep the zones stable for the initial flood. a lot of the newer mmo's are allready or have merged servers within thier 1st year, This doesn't mean they are not good, just didn't get the subs they expected/or people found the game not to thier liking after a while. But from AoC has going, it's going to be popular for sure. funcom has stated over and over they are all about fun enjoyable experience as with product quality. I see warhammer maybe cutting into AoC... but it will survive. |

The market may have a lot of games available and WoW is definitely towering over all the others, but AoC has the potential to beat out the majority of the games right now and maybe even attract some WoW addicts. Case in point: the people who have spent the money for at least mid-high end machines in the past two years should be fine. My system is a year old and I didn't get all of the latest expensive parts and open beta runs rather smoothly, minus the occasional, though rare, disconnect. And even on low settings the game just looks beautiful, something that you don't really see in MMOs outside of maybe EVE. As for gameplay itself, I think many MMOs might turn off some players more interested in action games or FPS's. The point, click, wait game style just isn't for everyone. AoC offering up this new active combat system really adds a lot in my opinion and it may bring new gamers into the market. You would be hard pressed to prove that level 10 in WoW was as exciting as level 10 is in AoC. Now whether that will continue on after level 20 and up into end game is still up for debate. WoW end game had it's ups and downs so AoC could really go either way. Another interesting fact is the PvP in AoC is comparable to what was promised for WoW but done right, or at least in theory, I haven't tried any PvP in AoC yet. The PvP in WoW had it's moments raiding towns or being chased through Ashenvale, but the sieges and active combat could add a new level of skill and intensity that the gear based combat of WoW may or may not have supplied...depending on what you enjoy. I think making the assumption so soon that AoC will flop is really bold considering the new ideas and potential that it provides. Now obviously potential isn't everything, it's all about the follow through. I think Funcom will just need to have to listen very carefully to what people say in the first couple of weeks and months after release, because even if it's buggy at first, it's all in the response, as I think we can see very clearly from WoW. I really hope Funcom pulls it off and creates some competition for WoW, I guess we'll see.

I think the current state of movies and mmorpgs is the same. A lot come out but they're mostly horrible. The market will never be too saturated for a GOOD game. Whether AoC is that game or not remains to be seen...but I think the determining factor will be quality, not genre. |

The MMO market isn't saturated at all IMO. However, the fantasy mmo market is flooded beyond belief. There's only so many ways I can swing a sword.... The next "big" mmo will be one of a non-fantasy genre. |

I think many people here are failing to take into account the amount of work people have put into their characters in the game they are currently comfortable with. I know this website makes it seem like most players are looking for something new, but I think the majority of players out there don't read forums and are happy where they are. In this case, the genre is saturated, because it would take a spectacular game with a lot of hype and media coverage to pull in new players to the genre. |
