Age of Conan

^Topic.  I have about 250 bucks to upgrade to a new video card.  If for a bit more money i would get a huge upgrade or vice versa thatd be cool.  Thanks guys!

I got an EVGA nvidia 8800 GTS 512mb card for 245 on Newegg and it is kicking Age of Conan's ass in open beta....can't wait for the release client.

In the 250 price range, you would get the best bang for the buck with the Nvidia 8800 GTS (g92). Its the 512 MB version. Dont get the 640, the chip is older and it wont go NEARLY as fast. Also, this card'll prolly cost you a bit less then 250. If you want to go further, for 300 the 9800 GTX just came out. Wouldnt recommend it, it only gets a very small amount of frames more. (Its just a refreshed/higher clocked GTS g92)

As far as the 9800GTX goes, it plays AoC wonderfully at high settings, 1600x1200 res.  The faster core isn't the only thing, it's the stock fan on it as well allows for much better over clocking.  I don't think you could go wrong with the 8800GTS either, I mean.. they are nearly the same card.

I hear the 8800gt is the best bang for your buck, though I'm not positive. Not really sure on the differences between the gt and the gts but I know for sure 8800 is one of the best out there, and you can probably get one for around 100-150 (depending on where you shop) over the internet. There was a great deal going on over at Newegg for a gts for $90, if I find the link I'll give it to you.

What type of motherboard do you have?  I'd agree that the 8800 GTS is probably a good bang for the buck, but make sure that your motherboard can accept the PCI express requirements that the 8800 series has. 

Would mind posting the make/model of your motherboard if you know it?  I'd hate for you to go out and spend $250 on a great card that your motherboard can't equip.

Make sure your motherboard is PCI or PCI-E compatible. I went to upgrade my computer without knowing much about my 3 year old rig and learned the hard way

Then again 2gig with a nice handled Computer on XP is enough also, if your GFX is really crappy..

Anything under 2gig RAM and your out of the legue wichever card you buy really.

Im running 2 gigs on Xp and currently have a 7600gt.  I cant check the rest of my specs because i cant currently turn my computer on(im on laptop).  So im guessing i could fit the 8800.  Plus Xp can only handle 2 gigs anwyays right?

On Newegg.com, I see 7600 cards for both AGP and PCI.  I only see one 7600GT and its AGP.  Granted Newegg.com is not the end-all-and-be-all of video cards.

Not to scare you, but check your mobo specs to make sure.
