i urge you to read this post. with all the haters andf flamers around here, just take few minutes, be honest with yourself and think: why the hell you wanna buy this game and not stay with wow. I personaly going to wait for the first reviews and than buy this game. credit: Ingrid http://www.play-girlz.com/is-age-of-conan-better-than-world-of-warcraft/
The official launch date for FunCom’s MMO, Age of Conan, is fast approaching, and the MMO players of the world are trying to answer the ultimate questions: Is AoC better than WoW? Should I leave WoW for AoC? I’m not exactly sure what people expect others to answer, as if this game were somehow so magical, so incredibly beyond anything that ever came before that it would compel every single person that’s ever tried it to proclaim: YES! IT IS OFFICIALLY THE BEST GAME EVER. IT IS THE MARY POPPINS OF MMOS - PERFECT IN EVERY WAY. Let’s get real. Making two gamers happy is difficult. Making every gamer in the world happy is delusional thinking. Is AoC better than WoW? Who’s to say that it is and who’s to say that it isn’t? There’s no real answer to the question: is x better than y. I love MMOs and I usually try as many of them as I can only to find that the vast majority of them are a huge disappointment. But that’s not to say that they suck or that I can’t see why others might find enjoyment in them. In the end, it all boils down to personal preference. If you’re trying to figure out whether AoC (or any other game) is “better” than WoW (or any other game), I suggest the following: - Figure out what you like about WoW and figure out what you don’t - Read as much as you can about the game you’re thinking of buying - Read the forums but don’t take all comments to heart. People will always have different opinions/experiences. - Find out if your computer can play the game (otherwise you’re just wasting your time if you’re not willing/able to upgrade) - Sign up for the betas or do your best to get into the open betas - Ask specific questions. People tend to be a lot more helpful when they feel they can be. - Understand that MMOs are never truly “complete” and that comparing a game that hasn’t even launched to a game that’s been out for four years is terribly unfair and a little crazy. I was there for WoW’s open beta/launch and played it for several months before quitting. I came back a year and a half later and it was honestly an entirely different game and an entirely different experience. I expect the same will be true of AoC, WAR or any other MMO that’s launching. That’s not to say that these games won’t be enjoyable at the beginning, they’re just obviously not going to have the same amount of content. - And of course, the ultimate way to find the answer to the ultimate question is… try the game. Wait for free trials to spring up, or see if any of your friends will let you play on their accounts. If you’ve got the funds, buy it and try it. No one says you have to keep your subscription and in the end it’s not any more expensive than any console game you buy, beat, and stick on a shelf to collect dust |

Not trying to bash this post, or degrade/flame anything here...but, this really is a common sense guide, or for the newer MMO player. "Will your game run it." Well damn, i hope you figure this out before you go buy it. This is turning into a flame... my advice is to find out if AoC is for you: If you are having fun playing it... play it. Don't go to forums and get some misconstrued views on the game, people on forums like to play the forum game, and you can never really tell who is legit and who is not... just don't do the forum thing. Is WoW or AoC for you? Play both and figure which you have more fun with.... period. Also I have to say getting into beta isnt always a sure fire way to figure out if the game is for you, granted most open betas reflect what you will get at launch...but not always. IF your really concerned in wasting money, wait for a trial account give away or get a buddy key. end rant. ______________________________ |

A great post with some valid questions for those who need advice. I am in the OB and I honestly enjoy the game. I am getting some crashes here and there and some funky load times but 95% of the time the game works perfectly for me. I wouldnt consider my system on the high end but it is about a year old. I have a c2d 2.4 ghz, 8800gts 320mb and 4gb ram on vista 32. On high with some other tweaks I avg between 30-40 fps which is doable for me. I played wow for a long time, seen and done everything but pvp hardcore. My server was awful and inmature so as an alliance player I never made it anywhere. After BC it became terrible repetitive and I could not play it anymore. Not sayings it is a terrible game because it isnt and it works perfectly. It is just no longer the game for me. AOC seems to be more involved (maybe because its new) but honestly a new game is what I was looking for. My preorder is still on and it has been since day 1 when I could order it through gamestop. Its only 100 bucks if I hate it after a month. Hell I got Rainbow Six Vegas two and beat it and didnt like the multiplayer so I didnt play it for more then 2 weeks.
Edit: also send me a pm if you want some answers to any questions about OB. I have a level 13 barbarian, ranger, necro, tos and a level 8 demo. |

WoW is yesterday.....Conan is today. Warhammer is garbage(I beta tested it and uninstalled it from my machine it was like WoW 5 years before WoW came out), Darkfall isn't coming....it's an Urban Legend. Face it. People are tired of WoW. I had 3 70's and i'm bored. It's time for something new. |

What is wrong with playing both? And why is it always WoW or MMO-X ? Many people around the MMO world are going to come to try Conan. Some will come from Consoles too. And seriously, why not play a few at the same time? I personally don't play WoW. Tried it for a couple of months but found it lacking. But the idea that people can only play one or another is a tad silly. Nor is it some line-in-the-sand situation that says "from this point forward I am a AoC gamer." People will play what they enjoy. Most people Play therefore Enjoy WoW over other games. People will come to AoC, play it and if they enjoy it will stay; if they don't they will leave. EDIT to Add - ... and its under fity bucks. So what is there to lose? Everyone should try it for a month at that price. I doubt they will even notice you were gone

This is what i've thought about for over a year now, and that applies to WAR, and almost every MMO that is going to be coming out in the future. Isn't that what a human does before they do something.. think about it? It's still a pretty good right up, but people generally go on the defensive when they are told what to think. |

Two words: "FREE TRIAL". Cars have a test drive, most contracts have a 14 day lead time yet computer games want you to buy just to rape those people that buy and instantly dont like it. No free trial = haha no. -- |

I have wrestled with the idea of going for the pre-order so I can play at launch and get the bonus stuff but I have decided to wait for the reviews. I played Horizons at launch and WoW at launch and both had their share of problems with WoW having some annoyances and Horizons being a disaster. (For EQ and DAOC I waited till about 4 months after launch) Since I have not been able to get into the OB I will wait for the reviews. I had promised myself after Horizon that I would always wait but after playing WoW's beta I had fun and played at launch. Since I can't try this one out I will wait for the reviews to come in.
What I still wrestle with is that if I do wait a few months you don't get that excitment of playing the game at launch. Its almost the same idea of seeing a good movie on opening night. The theatre is full and it creates a more exciting time. Wait a few months and leveling up is a far less populated experience which has its plusses and minuses.

haha no shit sherlock, are ppl really that dumb that they need a guide for shit like this?? And Aoc is supposed to marketed towards a "mature" audience, i mean doesn't that atleast conclude that u are suppose to be able to think and make your own decisions? If u need this guide i would say this game is not marketed towards U. |

I'm convinced, I won't be buying it. It just doesen't seem worth it, something will come along, but AoC won't be it. I think I'm just "one MMO at a time kinda guy". Also, I'm not ready to be a noob again. That's that. Another thing are all theese posts about bugs and unfinished release. While I agree that whatever is wrong at launch will be fixed eventualy, I realy don't plan to put myself trough beeing annoyed by thousand litle things every time I play. There's just no feeling of anticipation. This hype train has run out of steam, I'll wait for the next one. Probably will try it in a year or so, just not right away.
