Well I'm tired of hearing everyone talk about AoC on a Warhammer forum so I'm trying to get it back on track.

Here is my question thats been swimming around in my head.

In RvR do you think there will only be two major guilds on each server (one for each side)? As in it going to be the same guild taking the keeps and Fortresses over and over again or do you think there will be a healthy competition between several smaller guilds?

I think too many people like being guild leaders. While there will probably be a few Large guilds on each side per server, I am guessing there will be MANY MANY small guilds. I for one hate large guilds because I like a small, tight knit group. I also think it will be a better feeling to see your small guild hold a keep, rather than seeing your huge guild hold every keep in the area...

 

...plus, I would HATE to hold the banner for a large guild. Thats a lot of pressure.

I agree. I like small to maybe medium size guilds than a large zerging guild. When you actually know everyone easier to play with those people and learn each others style. I think that tends to lead to more successful PvP and PvE.

There will always be some mega guilds that will stand above others. PLayers like to be on a winning side, and if they see a guild that is succeeding (by whatever measure) they will flock.

However, that is NOT to say that medium sized guilds cannot also be succesful. I still prefer the comradre of  a medium guild rather than those Mega guilds. A percieved top ranking of a guild often forces the guild to push forward in order to keep its status. That often easily burns out the members and breeds drama. I was unfortunatly a part of that experience (See Awned's Monument for that storey)

I agree with Czzarre and Misterorff (as well as you Op) but I tend to prefer medium to small even if I don't mind to be in a small guild. Medium can, like said previously, overcome large guilds which is actually quite challenging and fun. The obvious thing in medium\small guilds is the fact that you actually can make online friends that way and by that keeping the members more united. Even if some are not there when you're playing you still got online posts and guild web site forums.

To the Op: thanks for bringing back a subject that matters other than talking about AoC - which I refuse to partake specially if it's to rent a game and its hype meter - this is a WAR forum after all.

Well guilds can form alliances, So i see many small/medium guilds doing that.

So in the end you will have large alliances dominating.

Yeah... there are mechanics in place that favor guild alliances over mega guilds.

- the "sweet spot" for guild size regarding guild xp

- one guild can take over only one keep at a time

In addition alliances will be able to hold a max of 10 guilds so even those won't be too huge.

First of all depends on server, but in general smaller guilds will be so much more fun and useful.  Everyone will seek power in larger guilds because of that people will defect and form there own guilds and eventually devolution will take place and the unifiction and the devolution. If you get a really elite group people will join them (simply cause say that guild held a fort for a week at a time)  but larger guilds will have benefit of more people so you can easily do scenarios.

it will be large alliances controls the keep or just really good guilds that work well together and end up taking keeps.....but who knows   hopefully we will see a good look at this during (or before) Open Beta

I thought Mythic said early on that it would not be possible for a single Uber-Guild to domiante a server. 

Not sure what they're planning on doing to prevent that, but they seem to realize it could be a problem.

It probably depends on the balancing system they have for the XP needed for a guild to level, they talked about a balancing system so that larger guilds won't plow through all the levels before their members leave Tier 1.

I really wouldn't see the need for an uber guild though especially if you want to have a variety of banner / tactic types.  If your leading like a massive war effort you'll want every tactical buff you can get and guild sare limited to 3 banners with 3 tactic slots each.   

Of course if there is an uber guild it probably won't effect the server much since they can't lock you out of anything if your on the same faction side.  In Shadowbane uber guilds could lock down an entire server, control the economy & the land and destroy any opposing player cities pretty quickly.   They won't have that much control in WAR.

I am pretty sure they have thought this out, although bigger guilds will be able to grab keeps and things easier, all guilds will get the chance. I think youll see a good difference in guilds depending on playstyle.

This was a concern i bet since DoaC where they didnt want one guild holing a keep in RvR. What ended up happening at least on my server was a few bigger guilds but more Medium guilds then anything. This should end up happening in this game. You will probably see guilds merge but i bet EVERYONE here knows the troubles with that. Ranging from internal power struggles to players being left out.

 

One reason i havent posted any guild apps yet and wont is because Friends > a guild always. I also wanna see how things play out. I think with the idea of living guilds it is at least in my interest to shop around and get into a guild that is worth my time, one that members arent just people to be ignored. People think they know how RvR combat plays out. But only the people that have played DaoC realize how much teamwork beyond that of WoW's(not bashing lol i waisted manyt years to it). Having said that i cant wait to be into RvR i miss making albions run away from my champion *tears*

 

But as someone else said sorry for not qouting you i was scimming, it will depend on the server i think you will probably see more bigger guilds in the Rp servers to be honest. There will be many ppl who end up just creating guilds with a few friends who are also playing the game.

I will most like be holding out until Open Beta before i even start talking to people about a guild. Im not playing this game for the drama fests WoW has the ability if handled incorrectly to cause.

Good points by Elvenangel and Needalife214.  Restricting the number of banners any one guild can have could encourage larger number of smaller guilds.   And limiting one guild to holding one keep will also encourage smaller guilds (I had not heard that before, but it makes sense.  Do you have a link Needalife?) 

Though perhaps we'll see 'Uber-Alliances' of guild members who used to belong to uber guilds but just broke themselves up into smaller ones.   Still that could be an improvement and less monolithic. 

The best aspect of RvR is that anyone can take part in it, whether or not you belong to a guild.  This will probably be a major factor in making uber-guilds less important and really could make WAR much more appealing to a broader base of players.

well  one reason i state that is that in DAoC a guild could only capture one keep at a time   but im sure the Devs have talked  about the keeps in  then new podcast  or in an interview   ill try tomorrow to find it for you  ...too tired as of this moment..
