All of this talk got me thinking about my most memorable first moments have been. WoW really has that slot, because I chose to be an orc....and one of the first quests you do there revolves around taking a blackjack, and beating peons over the head with it to wake them up. Bloody loved it. That aside, we've been trolled. Even if we HADN'T, what he said was pretty standard MMO stuff. |

I read the same article. My eyebrow raised also as to why the writer would say why the game is good after 10 min. Well first off the game isnt finished. 2nd is why anyone would judge a game after 10 min of play. if i judged EVE online in the 1st 10 min id've quit due to the complexities and menus within menus. You cant judge a game by the 1st 10 min. Played : WOW, LOTRO, COH/COV, EQ2, SWG, and WAR. |

However the rest of the article is generally positive, mainly explaining why you should play WAR and so on.
Maybe you should have used this as the thread title? |

Originally posted by greymann They are supposed to. I like to use single player games as an example. Your first moments in a game usually immerses yourself in that gameworld, so you can get lost in it. You never are told by the quest givers to press this or that button, instead, pop-ups come up with "Press A to Attack" and etc. Also the quests grab you in and introduces you to the mystery that you are to solve. Take Oblivion for example. It starts you off as a prisoner and the first thing you hear is some prisoner talking smack, which you can kill later if you want. Next the King and his guards walk through your cell, which allows you to escape through the back passages that the king nad his guards are taking. Along the way you engage in combat for your first time and get some armor. You even get to lock pick from the get go. Or take God of War for example. You start off on a ship that is being attacked. You immediately are immersed in the world and are like "WTF, Why are you attacking my boat," as you commense to kicking their asses. Giving a player a number in your quest, such as "Collect 7 of these or Kill 9 of those" is just bad. Instead, it should start out like "There is this local Bandit Lord in the nearby caves. I want you to prove your worth to our village by infliltrating his ranks and assassinating the Bandit Lord. Or, if you are so bold, just wipe them all out. I will pay you a sum of 50s if you are successful and will let you choose another reward from our village vault." By doing this, it allows the new person the freedom to do as he chooses (infiltrate or kill them all) and accomplishes the same thing as the kill quest. After all, he will probably kill 9 bandits during this quest anyways. MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW Currently Playing: WAR |

I stopped getting PC Gamer years ago the magazine was just full of in jokes and the reviewers kept on bitching about they had to review what they got given by the editor and frankly if it wasn't a FPS game it was unlikely it would get anything about 5/10. This magazine has a 2 month lead time on it so what they are reporting on is now over 8 weeks old. This is why I saved my money by not getting this rubbish magazine and use the internet for demos/ and trials. |

Originally posted by bobtheblob Ever heard of Wow, DAOC, EQ, PS for freak sakes. Pretty much starting zone, he doesn't say the game was not fun for reason related to game play but what, i only have like two moves to start with.... And it is called character development.
He is totally , missing that the "grind" in this game really does help your side defeat the other side. Makign it not totally arbitrary.
That being said , the first quests should be hella fun and anyoen not saying so is misguided i believe. The first quest should be intensive etc. I think what DAOC has now, but for war it should be a pvp or hostial npc area where you have to fight or RUN through to get to safty of a boat or wagon, Arc, etc that takes you to the starting areas, this would really get people invloved in not only the game but defeating their mortal enemies. That and abbaba makes a good point, sometimes its better to underwhelm new players than overwhelm them. Crazy dynamic quests off the bat... possibly confusing. (I disagree but im an experienced gameplayer, and well many are not). Originally posted by uncus Agreed. However, I played the first 10 minutes of the game when they had stands setup at Origins the past two years (and they'll be there again this year). The first 10 minutes to me were fun. Not revolutionary. Yet, it was fun. In fact, I will go so far as to say that I had the feeling that WAR may give me that feeling of "awe" that most get from their first MMO. However, it may just have been because I got that little sneak peak at Origins and I'm already on a gamer's high from that...I guess I'll see this fall when I play it. Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity. |

More than likely, every race has a different starting scenerio. Or course, some will be more developed than others. What's the purpose of this post anyway?

Originally posted by Vortigon AoC is not pure FAIL. You are pure FAIL. The OP was just relaying information he read in an article. What is the matter with you? I feel like you need to get out more, or try out maybe something other than MMO's for a while. You definitely shouldn't be around posting on forums... We all know WAR is going to be a very successful and awesome game. There is no reason to get all worked up. He was just relaying information which was about the first 10 minutes of a game with a ridiculous amount of time until launch. There is no reason to get upset, or defensive. |

question is, if those 10 minutes reflect the rest of the game.... If the "Hi kill 4 fairies and 2 sailors, then go see my friend" sets the baseline for the quests in the game.
If it is, then you're looking at a average normal game, with its only extra features a Public Quest system where only the DPS'ers get rewarded, and battlefields where only the zerg wins.
