I think it's fairly harsh judging the whole AOC Community based on the few who actually come on forums and complain like they'd already been ripped off.

I think the more mature audience in this game are, in fact, the people who never bother and just go on playing if they like the game. If they don't, they look for another game that fulfills their needs. That is the mature thing to do, in my opinion.

Personally, I get a good experience from AoC. I crash with some frequency, but as a software tester in the QA dept. of the company I work for, I know for a fact that 150 developers for close to 2 weeks are a lot of man-hours, and they can really get some work done, especially in crunch mode.

Even if you buy the game and you're disappointed, so what? It's like $50, you'll live. It's not like you've been forced to sell your car to play this ;) You might even be able to sell off the account, thus minimizing your losses. Think constructively, not destructively.

So each year you take $500+ to upgrade a pc?

I hardly doubt there are many willing to do this espically if you own a house, got kids etc etc.

Game is marked mature which i assume only wants a narrow band of matured. Those with jobs sharing apartments and no wife or commitments.

If u wanna play the latest games with decent settings thats what u gotta do, the lifespan for a computer is about 18month and after that it's almost junk only good for checking your mail with. A new computer atlest every 2years is necessary if u wanna be up-to-date.. then ofcourse u probally need to update some parts in your "old" computer too.

Yes, Funcom has gotten it right in regards to how they are doing their game. The only people who can't shell out the $700 to build a bad mofo comp to run this game are mostly the WoW kids who are playing WoW with a beat up old hammy-down comp.

The game is based upon a graphic novel from the 40s. To portray this genre you NEED hardcore realistic graphics (just as you would with a StarCraft MMO, doing it like WoW would absolutely ruin the StarCraft genre). However, my computer I built in febuarary of 07 that cost me $640 (price has gone down a LOT on the components since then) runs this game on absolute HIGH at 20fps. This with the open beta servers massively crammed and their client in an uncompiled state.

You have ZERO room to complain if your computer blows and can't run AoC on medium.....nuff said.

Agree

My 3 years old computer: amd 3500+, 2GB Ram, x1800xl graphic card runs the game easily in low to medium settings. My february '08 computer runs the game in high settings at 1600x1200 with zero lag.

Stop crying if your computer is 6 or 7 years old and you can't play this game. Just find a job and buy a new machine.

The hell are u people talking about? can i have some of what you r smoking?

50$ for the box and another 750$ for a new rig? That game better do the best f$%king bj's in the whole wide world if u expect people to pay 800$ just to play it.

Get out of your moms basements if u think 800$ is so easy to come by u idiots, that's like a whole month's salary for some people ( i m lucky i get paid a bit more).

AOC Puts graphics first over EVERYTHING including story, gameplay, bug reports, development, PVP, PVE, EVERYTHING. And it's going to fail. They need to burn the Gold CD's now. Scrap the graphics engine and start over. It's not even worth releasing. It's going to be a catastrophic failure on a scale we have not seen since Vanguard, even above and beyond that seaming pile. I cannot imagine the project manager that keeps this thing going. I'll bet they don't even have a rig in house that performs well with this hunk of crap.

My rig performs very well. Literally no problems.

First: Yes, there are a lot of issues right now with which computer can play it and which can't. At the moment, people with computers of all shapes and sizes are having trouble. Others with similar rigs (whether very new, or relatively older) are running the game fine. THIS is the major issue. I think we'll be looking at problems if Funcom doesn't fix this in the launch version.

Second: This, for me, doesn't resemble Vanguard at all. I'm not saying with 100% certainty that everything will be rosy with AoC. I can't see the future, and I haven't seen the final version and patches, but I can tell you that from my end, the two experiences can not be compared.

“Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall”

I want my cake and be able to eat it too. I find it funny that everyone is saying "What do you want: Performance, graphics, or playability etc etc" We are in the age where we should get all of that with out having to sacrifice the previous. I want to be able to play the game smoothly, have nice eye candy, and have fun all at once. Are you going to go buy a game that the Developers say, "Well we have crap performance and our graphics are below par, but damn it, our game is fun"?

I guess when it comes to me, all of these are important, and in no specific order... I want it all, and if I am paying 50 dollars upfront and 15 dollars monthly there should really be no excuse why I can't have all of those.

My mom passed away many years ago retarded.. How old do you think I am??

Stop with those stupid comments.. If you have a very old computer and have no money to buy a new one dont cry about it, get a second job or go play older games.. $800 is too much for you? Not anyones problem. In India, for example, many people earn $50 a month and they aren't here crying they cant play Age of Conan.

I have to laugh whenever I read something like this.  And not just in regard to AoC but whenever I've seen anyone talking about spending hundreds of dollars to upgrade for any game.

What you have to remember is that the vast majority of people who play games are not fanatics about gaming.  The vast majority of potential customers don't take gaming so seriously.  Most of those people will never even look at a forum like this, for example.

You might think it's perfectly reasonable to spend 1000 dollars to upgrade for one specific game but for most people that would sound insane even if $1000 isn't a lot of money for them.  It's not that they couldn't do it.  It's just that they don't care that much because they aren't fanatics.  And to the non-fanatical it would seem unreasonable to spend that much money just to play a friggen game.

Those types of people will only upgrade for gaming when their computers won't run much of anything anymore.  And when they do they probably won't be upgrading for ONE specific game but just upgrading in general because it feels like the time is right to do so or because their old computer has crapped out on them.

You can laugh at them all you want but the difference between them and us is that gaming just isn't that high a priority for them.
