I'm still very anxious to play this game, it sounds great.

When it first came out, lots of people were telling me to wait a few moths before buying it because of all the flaws in the game.

I was just wandering if the game has improved over the last few months?

The game is improving. It was pretty good to start with. Have you read the reviews?

IGN: 82

Gamespot: 80

Ah hell, just go to metacritic.

Anyway, the game has a free trial coming up (soon, not sure the date - sorry) just wait until then and give it a try.

I like the game, obviously, and I like the improvements they've done on it since launch.

<modedit>

People like you cost curious games their money.  PotBS just got rid of MOST of their servers.  This is a new game and it just downsized immensely.

The game is NOT improving.  The game is broken at the foundation and can't be fixed, add to that the fact that SOE is publishing, you have a disaster.

The game won't be around in a year, and that is a deserved fate for this crapfest with no depth and no vision.  FLS threw together a game that is fun for about a week, and then you realize how much it lacks and will ALWAY lack because of the design.

Nice Viral Marekting though.  Probably earned you a few weeks of free play.

Sandbox please.

Completely don't agree. I'm now at level 41 and game continues to be fun.

Enjoy AoC though.

You know a game is on life support when the detractors have eaten all the fanbois.

Or worse still, when the most ardent fanbois can be seen quitting PotBS or at least becoming detractors of the game.

As is happening now.

I wonder what the Staff at FLS think of this?

I wonder if they wish they could reach through the internet and punch some of them right in the nose?

The FLS forums pre release were full of fanbois (I could name half a dozen off the top of my head) who effectively shut down any sort of debate looking at the various systems in the game.  Some of those very same systems are now causing 'problems'.

So where are the Fanbois who so vehemently defended these systems and design choices?
The same ones who called anyone who dared to question FLS: "trolls"?
The ones who rallied around the cries of; "This thread should be locked.", "Dead Horse.", "Go back to WoW." and "The Devs know best."?

No-where to be found.  Or saying how the game suxxor.  Or saying "It's been fun!  Cya!  Off to play Conan."

At the end of the day all their adoration got them nothing - and it certainly didn't help FLS.

However, it just seems like alot of you have some sort of grudge against the game, surely it cant be that bad, i meen alot of people still play it and love it.

The movie "Speed Racer" is currently pulling a 35% rating over at Rotten Tomatoes. That means that, if you ask a whole bunch of reviewers, "So, did it stink?" at least 1 in 4 is going to say, "Nope."

I think you can point out the flaws in a game's design, make note of a botched launch or buggy gameplay, but answering "Is it fun?" will always be subjective.

Personally: I found the ship-to-ship combat a lot of fun, the instanced missions ultimately repetative and weirdly inconsistent difficulty-wise - sometimes a cakewalk, sometimes a slaughterfest - and the crafting/economy somewhat baffling and not at all buckling nor swashing. (The swashbuckling itself was lackluster.) I gave up before I ever entered PvP, so no idea how that is. There was a lot of traveling yet precious little exploring.

I can't say it was "bad", though, in the same way I can't say country music is "bad". I detest most of it, though, and... well, I didn't *detest* PotBS, but it was a waste of drive space for me.

Alot of MMO's have the problem of a boring combat system, poorly designed pvp etc, but that dosent necassarely meen its a bad game.

Such things certainly don't help make it a *good* game, though, particularly when your game is called "Pirates of the Burning Sea." The title  doesn't evoke a rich, player-driven economy to me, but rather swinging from the rigging.

I did not get my rig-swinging quota from the game.

If you really want to play a naval game you can try Bounty Bay online; it has a p2p server and a free server. It`s exactly the same game with VCO but with better support and it`s servers are in Europe.

It saddens me to see this game go bye bye, apparently, but having been in beta I am not surprised. Given the unique setting and the generally good atmosphere I had hopes they work on it, but as it seem they have no CLUE how to evolve their game. A loss, with such a plethora of Fantasy clones around.
