Finally they are starting to wake up and smell garbage that's being served to them:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?topic_id=660556

All the points get hit in this thread:

  • The LFG system is just going to illustrate how empty the servers are.
  • The LFG system is not going to magically create new players.
  • Servers like Kauri are so small that the players already have the entire population in their friend list.
  • In the end the LFG system isn't going to do a single thing to solve the population problem.

Here is the analogy:

A sinking ship.  Said ship has a massive gash in its hull.  So what does the Captain do to fix it?  He slaps on some paint.

SWG will NEVER see a population increase unless the core problems are addressed, and that isn't going to happen.  If LucasFilm or SOE had ANY integrity they would pull the plug on this monstrosity now, before the IP takes any more of a dent than it already has.

Sandbox please.

Vi veri universum vivus vici

SoE fails logic, you can't LFG when there is no one to group with to begin with. So the 50 guys other than Obraik that play NGE are mad now? Wow that only took 2 years.

Well I like to stay away from debating and targeting other posters (at least today har har).

But..  no matter what game or company this was.

People were asking for server mergers.  At least for the smaller servers.  Or free transfers, after all its not the people playing that screwed the game up.  Why pay $50 to lose a bunch of your stuff and move to another server.

Regardless this was proposed as a "fix".  That was going to magicly help those still playing.

Hell even I could see (yes my light bulb is half burnt out) that given a LFG tool to people on a dead server.. is just going to tell them what they already know.

Why even waste development time on a LFG tool.. it wasn't the "fix" that was needed.  Just from the view point of people do try to play this game or still enjoy it.

They needed to offer free transfers or mergers for some servers.  Or open entirely new servers and merge various ones into the new server.

Or hell even steal the cluster idea from DAoC so that everyone even gets to keep their name and just has a server tag on the end.

I don't like the current game but I can definitely have the view point that for those playing.. this was never going to fix anything.

"We already have two operating MMOs. We launched a game called Ultima Online in 1997. It's still got hundreds of thousands of subscribers. Then there's Dark Age of Camelot, we also have a situation where we have well over 100,000 subscribers."

-Frank Gibeau of Electronic Arts.

Does it seem odd that UO has more subscribers than the best RvR game on the market?

What people don't seem to realise is that it's the first step in helping those on the low population servers.  As has been said hundreds of times now, it's best to start with the less drastic solutions first and then work up to those more drastic solutions.

Whether the LFG system helps the low pop-servers or not, an LFG system is still something that the game has needed for years now.

What you don't seem to realize is that the situation is waaaaaaay beyond small, less drastic solutions. According to players on Kauri there are only about 35 people who log on to that server on a regular basis. The situation at this point is dire and throwing band-aids at the problem isn't going to help. It's just an insult to those players who still subscribe to the game.

Based on that thread they are finally starting to understand that maybe they shouldn't be subscribing.

These are the opinions of the people on the forums. What about those that don't post on the forums?  There are people on the servers that don't want a server merge, they either enjoy the lower pops or they don't want to lose what they've established over the years.  Their opinion is just as important as those that post on the forums.
