Recently there have been a lot of complaints about AoC's many game mechanics and it's system compatibility in terms of graphics. Meanwhile WAR is in the stage AoC was in months ago, and although may be a solid game, has not however shown near as much content or gained as much internet coverage as it's rival, obviously due to AoC's May 20th Release Date. I encourage everyone to explain why you feel one way or the other about AoC or WAR and which game will be the victor in the coming years. As for my opinion, I think AoC will outstand WAR on not only initial sales but probably most longterm subscriptions aswell.

This is almost exactly like EQ2 vs WOW. Many people couldn't play EQ2 because of its high computer requirements. Also many people didn't like all of the load screens, invisible walls and instances in EQ2. WOW had an open world, and every computer could play it. SO WOW ended up with 20 times as many subs as EQ2. I'm not saying that WAR will get 20 times as many subs as AOC, but it does seem like a very similar situation

I am tiered of cartonish type of games like WoW and War.
I have tried AoC, that is the game for me ... more brutal, cool, realistic, exciting, more adult, ...

I don't think either game is going to make it "big" they both may be successful but will never gain the same scope as WoW. It's a Jeep thing. . .

I voted neither, but of the two, WAR will beat AoC by a huge margin. |

Both. Seriously we need successful MMOs. If AoC doesn't satisfy me at launch (I think it will) I'll wait for WAR. If it does and I get burned out after a few months and WAR is successful I'll buy it. Any gamer should choose both as they aren't really competitors as it stands. |

Originally posted by ghoul31 Actually... WoW and EQ2 both had giant flat areas of empty space, and some instances... so I fail to see your point here. Ok, look... AoC deffinately has more restrictive enviroments than other MMOs do, and it's a completely valid position to not not like that, but it's just annoying when people label that "invisable walls." A giant rock blocking your path is not an invisable wall.... it's a fricken wall. Now, maybe you think that place a giant rock right there was just an excuse not to design more area to to explore... well ok then... say that... calling it something it isn't just invalidates your arguement. I for one have killed myself many times in Beta searching for invisable walls that wheren't there to stop me from jumping of a cliff at the edge of a zone. Active: WoW, DDO: EU Semi-retired: Darkfall, STO, EvE Fully retired: UO, EQ, AC, SWG, FFXI, DDO:SR, PoTBS, AoC Tried: EQ2, Tabula Rasa, Auto-Assault, Isteria, LotRO, Wizard 101 |

WAR is definitely going to have more subscribers, I wish it was being released on May 21st instead of AoC honestly. Im still not sure how AoC will fare but Im guessing it will have about the success that EQ2 has had. |

Will AoC be successful? Yes. Will WAR be successful? Yes. That's all the really matters if you're a fan of the genre. |

WAR will rake in much more subs simply because it is geared more towards the casual gamer - both in terms of tech and game design. AoC will do well and, bar any catastrophic surprises, will gather a loyal playerbase that'll keep it comfortably afloat. As for being the King... WoW will stick around as the top dog for a time. IMO WoTLK is going to be an epic fail or, at the very least, the beginning of the end for that game. Die-hards will keep it the most populous MMO for about two years more and after that... who knows? |

There is only one way to settle this AoC vs WAR debate that has been raging for so long over the internet. Yes only one way to settle it, "ah" you say to yourself "He's going suggest we try both games and decide for ourselves, predictable fool!". No, certainly not! The only way to settle it is to get the Funcom and Mythic developers together and have them fight it out to the death like in Mad Max 3 (thunder dome scene) or like in Escape from New York,
That's a pic of Trond "kick your noob" Aas taking out Mark "I suck at PvP" Jacobs. My money is on Funcom because they're well 'ard with hot women, nipples and gore whilst Mythic are a bunch of Elf loving nancy boys so NNEEEERRRRRRR!

Originally posted by ghoul31 That is very true. I pre-ordered both and I will play both. But in the end which game will have a richer story that will keep me immersed. But I have a feeling I will be sticking with WAR Promote Rift! Get your free 7 day trial here! |

Yes, I have pre-ordered both Collectors Editions for each game. I plan on playing both as both interest me a lot. MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit. |

Originally posted by ghoul31 Not really a fair comparison, because of the one major difference; setting technical issues aside, EQ2 sucked. On the other hand, again setting technical issues aside, AoC has the best writing ever seen outside of single-player games, and classes which are interesting and balanced enough to make it hard to decide which to play as a primary. That being said, I think most of the potential conflict between AoC and WAR exists only in the minds of rabid supporters. Looking at the available information on the games, neither one is taking the "who cares about quality, we want the most subs" attitude of WoW, both are focusing on delivering quality game experiences to specific underserved segments of the market. Is there some crossover appeal that could lead to conflict? Sure, some, but for the most part the games are targeting fundamentally different audiences. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. |

Honestly, I'd love nothing more than to see the geeky yet quirky guys at Mythic grab whatever makeshift weapons they could find at their office, load themselves into vans and drive over to Blizzard Headquarters. Invade the building, looting and pillaging. Ransacking cubicles, knocking over water-coolers, thrashing the company breakroom before storming the CEOs office on the top floor. I honestly think that Mark Jacobs could beat Mike Morhaime in a straight up fight. Now that, my friends, is what I call RvR.

Originally posted by mcharj11 You speak much wisdom here, far better to slash off the dead flesh of the MMO industry than to have to decent companies with good developers kill eachother. Yes I can just see Trond Arne and Mike Jacobs facing down John Smedley and Brad McQuaid in a 2 vs 2 deathmatch.
Maybe something like this, naturally Smed and co are on the right about to get impaled on Funcoms spear of decent coding whilst being blocked by Mythics shield of good customer support. Naturally Smed and Brad are baffled by these weapons and are lightly armed with blunt short swords of rushed release and cloth armour of unwashed vision.
