"I am altering the deal, pray I don''t alter it any further." (summary of SWG)

"John Smedley: ... as a company we are less and less willing to do anything that might harm our reputation, and we want to make sure that our games are super-high quality. "

I hope that's true, but with Smed, I'll never know if he's telling me what he really thinks, or what he wants me to hear.  Sadly, from past experience.

forever we will remember, forever forgotten it will be not.

Talk about covering your ass. I pretty much laughed through the whole interview, the exact opposite of what he says happened.

His "honesty" Smedie comes along opens his ugly mouth and fools people with :

"We all love what we do, so we want to work with people we care about, and on games that we want to play."

-lol

"[...] we're making sure that we're thinking ahead of where the market it." hahahaha

-lol

finally a threat

"One thing that I've seen is that the user interface can't be the old, clunky thing for PC gaming nerds that it always has been, and we're learning that as an industry - we're reaching a broader audience as a result."

-hehe

-he dreams of a ideal target audience

"that doesn't help us get the 10 year old kid with the 4 year old computer."

"..look at the success of Guitar Hero."

-some lies for  dessert

"We're on generation two, whereas everybody else is on generation one - and I think that will give us a leg-up in our future titles."

"[...] and over the past few years I think we've done that (listening to community) - I'm really proud of the strides we've taken in that direction. Listening is a very important skill."

-LOL ROFL

"It does, because we now have a much better mechanism in place for listening to customer feedback. Our entire company is very quality-oriented now, and extremely focused around making sure that we're giving the users, who are paying the bills, something that they want, and that's fun."

-in every sentence Smed like  to derite us

uhmm...feel sickand stoped reading that  garbarge..

EDIT : ok after litle vomit  --continued

It's amazing to me to see this guy talk about how they're listening now, but who exactly is telling them that micro-transactions are the future of MMO's?

And something else that bothers me id the whole "broader audience" thing.

Broader audience means lowest common denominator, which in turn creates generic and bland products. It's this mentality that I believe is partially to blame for the stagnation in this genre.

Good points!

Companies do not always do so well if they rigidly plan for what they "see" as the future. Companies that adapt and can accept changes will make it in the long run... Companies that retain customer loyalty and have a good brand...

I do not see SOE fitting any of those descriptions tbh.

Wow, just wow..... I wonder if anyone in the room bust out laughing when he was shoveling that bull.

What a moron.

Perhaps some 10 year olds are the only ones that will believe in his "vision".

Hey Smed.... I've got a game I'd like to sell you.

"You know what happened to the man that got everything he ever wanted? He had nothing to hope for."

After reading Smeds letter, even I have to claim bullshit.

While i agree with you Suvroc theres 10 million people who dont WOW is a big factor in this as you rightly say stagnation of the MMO genre, money men want some of that pie as i've being saying for ages, they're the ones who pull the strings now,not the devs.

If Blizzard had put out a sandbox type game  as WOW then we would see a stampede to imitate it just as we're seeing now but sadly they didnt and we're going to be stuck in this generic hell hole of quest baseed/level driven games for a good few years yet.

The money men wont allow anything else, they're looking at getting some reward for thier investment and see the WOW template as the quickest way of getting it back in the bank.

I'll say it again we're in the age of the &q
