I'm happily playing WoW thank you, I've tried already a number of games (COH/V, FFXI, SWG, GW, EQ1, EQ2, LOTRO, DDO, DAOC etc...) and other than FFXI (and LOTRO to very small extent), they all pretty much stink. Sorry, but at least with WoW I'm actually having fun, not something I can say about the rest of the crap that's out there and apparently from what I hear in the forums here, WAR and AoC aren't going to be all that groundbreaking either, so it looks like I won't be changing games soon.

I never bought WoW.  Pre-release it was pretty obvious that the end-game was going to be raid grinding and I hate that type of game design quite passionately.  I guess they've shifted the focus away from raiding somewhat at this point but by now it's just too late for me to care.

I have tried it out a little on a friends accounts but my total time played is probably only 10 or 15 hours.  In that limited play experience I can say that I didn't hate the cartoony look the way some do.  I thought the basic gameplay and feel of the game was fine.  But I really didn't like the way that I always seemed to have at least two or three different quests going.

It sort of felt like I was being guided through the game a little too much.  Go there, do that, now back to here, now over there, kill that, collect those, now back to here, now go there, etc.  Whatever happened to just letting people go out explore and find things for themselves.  So based on that limited experience I don't have much interest in the game even now that they've realized that raiders aren't the only people in the world.

Google "MMORPGMaker" if you want to make your own MMORPG.

Around town here I am almost the only one amongst my friends. It occurred to me when I was in class on the first day of the the spring quarter. When everyone had to do the stupid get know each other gig. Long story short the prof. asked who plays "World of Warcraft?" and he rose his hand.

I looked around and no one did...and I blurted out "Statistically I am pretty sure, at least one more of you have to". Haha.

Hell I even avoided Guild Wars. I know I didn't play WoW because it was same old, same old to me. I played A few days free here and there but the game never took a hold of me. I think all it would have taken is a less cartoonish look to the toons :P

I played a 14 day trial, and hated it. The grouping dynamics in the early levels are bad, the graphics don't appeal to me, and there is to much emphasis on quests.

Im not really impressed by the numbers.

How are you not impressed by the numbers?  That's a joke, you have to be impressed, even if you are not a player.  WoW has hit amazing numbers, and, although I am not a fan of the game, those are extremely impressive numbers.  When everyone in the gaming industry looks at you and says, "I want to be like that!", you know you have a successful game.

10 million is not easy to get, and it has brought many new people into the world of gaming (wether or not that is good is a different story.).

Ill admit I used to be impressed by the large numbers of wow, ive played for over 2 years and im still playing. Ive played many mmo's in the past with a 5 year stint in AC. I have enjoyed playing wow, i think its a good game but I also think its one of the most bland MMO's there is. There is really nothing else to do but pvp, raid or lvl an alt, hence why i have 4 70's lol. I wont be buying the next expansion, im done with it after it is released, way to much focus on getting as many sub numbers as they can and not delivering quality content that the community wants.

Also another thing to think about is most of those 10 million subs are in asia, alot of mmo's dont expand world wide like wow, which is another reason why there is soooo many subs.

The point of all this is that i recently starting playing LOTRO and i can honestly in my opinion say that it beats wow in every single way. It may only have 200k subs, which is strong no matter what but the community is amazing, the developers care about creating the content that the subscribers want and that makes it 10 times better than wow in my opinion. People often focus on the popularity and not the quality, i think the popularity of wow gimps it and makes it worse than games that only have 50k subs but developers that care about making there game amazing, not an e-sport for marketing lol.

The numbers don't impress me in the least.  Quantity does not mean quality.  Look at how many idiots watch reality shows on TV.  That doesn't make the shows any good, it just shows that they appeal to the lowest common denominator, just like WoW does.

The simple fact is that most of the people who are playing WoW aren't people I'd want to spend any time around whatsoever.  It's like MySpace.  Lots and lots of people there, but it's almost entirely crap.

''Hey now!'' - the immortal, cheesy catch-phrase of Hank Kingsly from The Larry Sanders Show.

Why was this thread posted on the main discusion forum and then appeared on the WoW forum?  Someone looking for attention?

If you went out of your way not to play the biggest selling MMO, and then post a thread about it on a MMO web-site, then it seems rather pointless, and posting said thread here just shows your agenda.

Ive been playing wow since beta....and yea Im getting tired of it...but when you go from wow to another game....you relize "Hey this game is crap compared to wow". There is so much work/money/time/effort put into wow than most other games its mind boggling. If you havent played WoW....then imo your arent that much of a MMORPG player. Yes WoW is way less difficult than alot of other games. I used to play lineage 2 and that game was pretty hardcore.

I agree with you. We shall see how Warhammer holds up.

Get owned by a chick ^^

I have never played WOW. Ever.

The only reason being:  because I do not like playing "established" games.

I enjoy watching the game evolve from day one. (I love to torture myself, I know )

When WOW first came onto the scene, I was still heavily into console games.  Although, if the situation/timing was different, I might have fallen "victim" to the WOW   xD  haha

Cant remember what level I was, but when i FELL ASLEEP doing the mind numbing run over here kill/collect these, then run back. I cancelled my account.

Never have I played such a boring mmorpg.

But in a way Im kind of jealous of current players because if they think WoW is good, fun and can hold their interest, when they play a real mmorpg they will have their minds blown.

Does anyone know how to make a mmoRPG anymore?
