"Have fun storming the castle!"

I have read different people saying different things......can you just wander off into the jungle and explore or is it pathbased?

It isn't open at all. It is very path based. But some people are saying that only the first 20 levels are like that. But since we can only play to level 13 , there is no way to really know at this point.

“Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall”

The first 20 lvls are going to be restrictive. They want you to follow a srict path to actually get a feel for the game as welll as the lore, and they said you really can't get that if you can go anywhere especially if ADD kicks in. The first 20 lvls are there almost as a tutorial. If you are upset over this and are in open beta, get lvl 13 then you will relize 20 won't take you long to get and you will be in the land of Hyboria in no time. Also if you look at the climbing skill that you can put points in, this allows you to climb faster and get t places that arnt on the path. Check out some youtube videos or gametrailer videos to see what i mean, will find link later.. at work atm

Tortage is a starter area so i guess it makes sense to limit players so that they don't wander too far. But conalis valley was pretty expansive imo.

Don't listen to this guy. He is so wrong. Judging a game by the first 13 levels (if you even played the Open Beta) is stupid.

There are many accounts that the game opens up after level 20. Up to level 20 is the NEWBIE TUTORIAL area. Of course they aren't going to give you a ton of freedom.

Wait until the game comes out OR the until the NDA is lifted and you'll have your answer.

Well if it is for just the first 20 levels I dont mind that at all....I was reading a few posts of people complaining about that and wanted to know if after the starter area if the world opened up. One of the joys of an MMO for me is the ability to just take off and explore.....

They need to keep you in one area while you're learning the game. I mean, you could play up to level 20 single player if you wanted to. The point is, we don't really have information past level 13, but there is no way Funcom would make an MMO that was completely linear. It worked for Guild Wars, but not for a game that has 80 levels in it.

You could always search on Google to find stuff that we can't talk about on these forums.. :).

Holy $%$, so much BS info floating around!

'Leaks' from beta testers have confirmed that after 20 the world is wide open. The first 20 levels are pathed as its basically just preparation for the 'real' world. Once you hit 20, you go to your starting city and open gameplay begins.

With only 11 days till launch,  they need to lift the NDA , so people can answer these questions

Or even better, lift the level cap

'Leaks' actually state that the world opens up a BIT more. They say the zones are somewhat larger, but there's still plenty of invisible walls, and everything continues to be controlled by zoning and content paths.  By content pathing I think they mean that  all to most of the 'open'-ish areas are designed with a leveling and questing path in mind. Some people mentioned that there are a few areas to explore, but not many.
