And it did. There was no denying it. From the low-poly engine, to the cartoony models, even the UI layout—everything had an immediate sense of… familiarity. It was nearly déjà vu… as if suddenly it were 2004, all over again. Well, I told myself, appearances can be deceiving. Don’t judge a book by its cover, and all of that. Let’s see how it plays. Unfortunately, this thought was very shortly thereafter followed by another: This plays a hell of a lot like WoW, too. Once again, there was the immediate sense of familiarity. Similar skills, similar casting times, similar mana requirements… tab to target, press 1 for Blaze, repeat until dead… Replace “Blaze” with “Frostbolt” and I was already having horrid flashbacks of nearly wearing out the 1 on my keyboard through two years of heavy raiding. Even the universal cooldown seemed to be on nearly the exact same timer." From an article dated Jan 08. |

Originally posted by Zhqrxt Well actually that's exactly why I like Warhammer Fantasy universe... It is a European fantasy setting made by Europeans so it's got a different slant to it. Being an euro myself I can tell you that to my eyes most of the fantasy produced in the US (Ars Magica being a notable example) looks a total eyesore - the biggest culprit being Dungeons and Dragons settings (original Greyhawk excluded). I'm sorry guys but Forgotten Realms is a Wild West setting with some medieval themeing thrown onto it. To me all modern fantasy looks plastic and without any real relation to real medieval architecture and world view. When I see a fantasy village or city which is spread out like an LA suburb I want to puke. Independent farmers with their settler-like mores are a total fake as well - straight out of 19th century wild west. Europe in the dark ages and renaissance had absolutely nothing of the kind - it had serfs (not much better than slaves) and their masters - the clergy and aristocracy. The cities were the refuge of wealthy merchants and craftsmen who formed tight-knit hereditary monopolies called guilds. And that's it. Back to the subject. Warhammer's vision of renaissance europe (the Empire) is just fine. :) |

Sadly it will be just another waste of a good IP to satisfy the teen console monkey mentality, who won't appreciate the 2 decades of content behind what they are whining about. |

I do not plan to play for many reasons, most of which have already been listed. I mean, an RP flag? Yes, that would go well...Maybe if it were based off of 40K, I'd try it. Mix some sci-fi with the fantasy. |

Just read a hands on in the PC gameplay (Belgium gamemagazine) and they weren't really impressed; game didn't seem finished, especially the enviroment looked dull and uninspiring. In the interview in the same magazine, the dev/producer guy said they thought they could release it now, but wanted to polish it some more. This doesn't full me with confidence. And the game is supposedly filled with fedexs missions. No thank you. |

Not to discredit you or anything but how can they fully judge a game on a preview run through? Its been obvious for a year now they're not really showing the most optimized, highest resed complete version of the game. Previews are just that Previews....and since I haven't obviously read the article myself I can't really verify its information against all the other preview articles that are raving about the possiblities of the game. Not to mentoin the dull and uninspiring comment sounds more like something alot of the AoC zealot fanbois (not all of them just the zealots) have been complaining about. No offense...I'd rather the game be fun than uber beautiful..though obviously having both is a giant plus. You can't trust just one source since there's no purely objective way to judge a game..its all subjective unless the game is obviously completely horrible like oh...Vanguard.

I haven't been following this game anymore for over months, and I agree you can't judge a game by only one preview. If I read raving reviews when this game is out, I might still try a free trial. There are a lot of games on the market, and coming on the market, so I have to sort out what gets my attention, and what not. A bad preview will shift my attention away from a game, simple as that. The devs/producers not showing the best version of the game, is a stupid desicion, and again doesn't full me with confidence.

Originally posted by thekid1It's not like these guys are trying to sell a product or service; so why should they show off the best aspects of the game to a magazine that has many subscribers? It is an old fashioned idea that when you show a preview of a product it should serve as a hook or a net and reveal the best that the product has to offer - get with the times man! Shame on you, thekid1, go post logic and reason somewhere else those sorts of things don't fly around here! |

I won't BE playing, because the art style doesn't interest me and I don't trust EA. After they've ruined 2 of my favorite titles. I am done with any EA product.. for good. Yes I hold grudges.. they're worse then SOE. |

Hmmm never tought of this. I never liked WoW either due to the cartoony and childish graphics but kept playing a while since all my friends were there too. Not that there is an option, I don't feel like going back there again. I'm sure WAR might be good but somehow I've managed to avoid the subject. Main reason might be the dumbass guy who's been in all those WAR trailers I've seen. He is so damn annoying that it has sort of a negative effect on the whole game's image. So my answer is: bad graphics and bad marketing. (I have no idea how the gameplay is, so I'm not commenting on it.) |
