Since I've had a Fileplanet sub since earlier this year, I decided to grab a copy of the Age of Conan beta client last week and give the game a try. While it could use some polish, I'm one of those people who hasn't had any hardware issues running it, so I managed to get into the gameplay, which I enjoyed. I like the combat, the lore, the combat rose UI...all in all, I'd normally be picking up a copy of the game in two weeks' time. But I'm not. Why, you ask? The beta testing community is the whiniest, rudest bunch of idiotic Funcom ass-kissing fanboys that I've ever seen, bar none. Someone mentioning that the AoC demonologist reminded him of a combination of an EQ and WoW class prompted a torrent of "fuck WoW, eat shit n00b" "go back to WoW, baby!" "I'm gonna come to your house and kill you!" type comments. Any time any other game came up, or someone said something not totally complementary about AoC, a ton of people ended up insulting them, threatening them, calling them poor scrubs who couldn't afford a decent machine, and so on. While I know that a beta community isn't entirely indicative of what the final game community will be like, these jackasses have put me off buying the game in the short run, at least until I find out a bit more about what the release community is like. Oh yeah, and the official forums? --->

I agree with the OP, I have postponed my plans to buy this game and I will wait for: 1. Game to be released and several patches for bug free gaming 2. The ad community of Asshats to rape, pillage, and destroy as much as they can and then move on. 3. And exact system specs to know what to run the game on, not the kinda sorta maybe shoulda coulda woulda run systems, before I upgrade my system. |

Mah like you said wouldnt judge the community on the beta, also the time's I have really enjoyed a MMo is with my guild and some friends I met along the way,There are lots of guilds looking for"adult" member's(yep we both know this is also sometime's a hit or a miss)so you could try to join a pre-AoC guild and try it out. I think it wont matter too much with the age restriction's of this game, maybe the higher pc spec's will, but at the end off the day every game gets its share... |

Mate, ever since Funcom started the 'we've got boobies' comments AoC was guaranteed to draw every ten year old with access to daddies credit card from here to darkest Africa. Someone mentioned in another thread that the beta testers global chat was over 30 minutes of chuck norris the other night and that says it all.
Actually I'm being unfair on ten year olds there, it's usually the 13 - 15 age bracket that's the worst, the ones that think every other word starting with F makes them sound older, and I apologise in advance to those people in that age bracket that are not like that, I know there are some but they appear to be the minority and must cringe even more than the rest of us because they get tarred with the same brush.

I think its too early to judge the community - you have everyone on the same server
the PVE community and PVP communities may be very different |

I kinda agree and disagree from what i see the AoC fans have every right to whinge because all i have seen is people flaming that WoW is better at this WoW is better at that and the same for War so clearly these people had no intention but to ridicule the game so imo why not give these guys shit i mean there are honest people out there that want to test this game but instead we get arse monkeys in there spurting shit about how a game that has been out for 4+ years is more polished? and people saying War has beat this game yet it is not even out yet, i do agree that some of the things said were a bit harsh but some people have a real passion for this game and don't want it to be ridiculed with 10 year old kids. |

I agree, the community in the beta is really lacking. I'm going to hope that by release FC will find a way to deal with these types of people, at least enough of them where it is at a point of the regular amount of these types of people. But tbh I wouldn't consider that a factor to not buy the game, but that's just me, I can certainly understand why people would. It's just not as much of a deal to me and I just ignore them. As long as there are enough mature people to play with, I really don't care about them. Unless of course, which I can guarantee will happen, I will go AFK in a city and 10 minutes later come back to see a naked female character placing her boobs on my character's face EDIT: you also have to realize that a good portion of the people in there are not potential customers, just "samplers" from FP and people who are, literally, purposefully attempting to lower the standards of the game... which is futile, but then again you have to look at the intelligence of the people doing it |

I've noticed the same thing.. the ones yelling 'troll' are usually the biggest trolls themselves. Its like they can't sleep at night unless everyone on the board thinks like them. I recently saw the movie 'The Mist' on dvd when it came out and was amazed at how similar some of the extremist fans on the board were to the crazy religious nut that wanted to kill everyone who didn't worship like she did. Every time I see one jump up on their pedestal and start screaming 'troll!'I just shake my head and hope that the dorky shopkeeper with the pistol comes around to save the day. Edit: troll Or shill, as it turns out :) |
