How can you soar with eagles, when you work with turkeys. |
I'm afraid that you're not going to get the results you want. The definition of a "good MMO" is subjective which is why arguments go on forever in these forums. Some people class EQ1 or UO as being the best ever because good graphics don't ride high on their priority list. Others like SWG because....well....its Star Wars. Others like Vanguard. Whereas others like DDO. And obviously 10 million people like WoW for its casual friendly approach through the levels and then raiding at top end. If you like a polished, casual friendly whilst leveling game, then WoW is probably the best choice. I only throw this one in because it is, in my mind, a polished product that is worth a trial if nothing else. Vanguard has flying mounts, big world, but is floundering in the subs due to slow development at the moment. Whether that's due to SOE not giving out enough resources or the dev team not knowing what they're doing is a subject for a different discussion. DAOC? Well, I've never been that big on PVP, never played it, never wanted to tbh. DDO. Well, the dungeons are atmospheric, but it just feels....cold to me....The city is just a "hub" for dungeon entrances. It doesn't feel like a big persistent world. Just a city with an auction house and instance entrances. If you like Final Fantasy games and that style of graphics, then Final Fantasy online might be your bag. Not played it that much, so can't pass comment on it. If you want something more...spacey.....try EVE Online. Think of it as Homeworld online (click to move style). It has one of the best player driven economies but can get a little boring if you're not into PVP. Agent "missions" (Quests) are good for a period, but get a little repetitive. Incidentally, if you're looking for something more like "Elite" or "Privateer" (if you can remember those) theres a new MMO due out in the next year or so....Jumpgate Evolution. Still on the subject of Sci-fi genre MMO's, in the next 6 months Funcoms previous MMO, Anarchy Online gets a face lift. It will be interesting to see how well that pans out, it may slighly begin to erode some subs from other games if they bring everything fully up to date on it. Funcom's latest flagship MMO, Age of Conan is due out soon (in 15 days), like most MMO's its going to have its problems just after launch. We'll have to wait and see to see how that one pans out. The question is, what do YOU want from an MMO? |
