'My game is better than your game, your game sucks....
*sigh*
What's up with all this non-sense? Did somebody pee in your corn flakes this morning? Why do some of you feel that you must push people away from a game that they are interested in? It's one thing to give a critique of a game from your expirience in it, it is quite another to try and make people feel bad for wanting to play it. Get a grip. Hype the game that you like, that's cool. Showing support to a company you believe in is cool. Being a dick for no reason is just juvenile. Again, since this is not the first time I have tried to post a reasonable reply on one of these threads that are started just to provoke a fight, I will mention that I am not pointing any fingers or quoting anyone, I'm just trying to inject a bit of maturity into the conversation. I've been trying for months to read through these threads to find a little info on the games, but all I keep hearing is 'This game sucks...It's going to flop...You must be a fanboi if you like this game...' What is it about the game that makes you 'want' it to fail? Or maybe more importantly, what is it about yourself that makes you want to belittle other people for wanting it to succeed?
By the way, a little off topic here but...Go to www.dewmocracy.com and help pick the next new flavor of MT Dew. My favorite is Voltage, what's yours? |

A blind person not blinded by warhammer-fanboisim with half a braincell should know that this game will not be anything like this on release |

Everyone with at least the brain of a peanut knows that Hi Res graphics and MMORPG's just don't mix.

Originally posted by elvenangel While I respect your opinion, I personally think your wrong. 13 Levels and a hint at PvP this late in a game's development is plenty of substance to make a good judgment of how game is going to play at release. I can never understand people saying things like "ya gotta play to "x" to fully get into it" or "give it time, it gets better". Folks if something doesn't grab you in someway from the start, I believe you'll be hard pressed to want to stick it out. With that being said, it's not to say a developer can't fix or tweak certain aspects of a game but your not going to see any major overhaul of a game engine or design. I've been in AoC beta from the start and I'm going to reserve my comments for a bit. But I do agree with you that Funcom could of handled open beta a lot better. |

AoC should have been pushed back so it was a finished product, I'm tired of MMO makers thinking just because they CAN patch their game they CAN release it early. your breakin my heart people. I'd rather have a finished game than one that played like a free MMO made by an amature company who's only goals are to hawk their wares on an unsuspecting and trusting community. Not saying that making MMO's isn't a business, just that i'd like to get what I'm payin for. |

I'd rather play a good but buggy game that a polished boring game like wow. I played and loved the pvp weekend even through all the bugs and the assassin/ranger 1 shotting. was way better than anyother mmo.

I would prefer a decent to mediocre but polished game to a great game full of bugs. Matter of utility all around. As things are going now AoC is certainly isn't polished and its quality is at best debatable. WAR will more likely have better polish and thus less bugs due to longer development period. Not to mention the hardware demands are much lower, only few motnhs back AoC was supposed to be Vista only. |

While WAR gives gamers something to look forward too, There is no guarantee this game will be any more or less polished then AOC. I have not played AOC as of yet and will wait for the post release reviews, but I still don't see how a postponement by Mystic automatically means a polished game. In fact what was the last polished game that came out? I can't recall one in the last 2 years that was considered polished at release. All the games have made massive changes at release, while this is not excusable it is becoming expected.
The bottom line is that there will be gamers that will give a game time and ones that will move to the next big launch. I believe that we should play the best game that is available at any given time, that does mean moving around, but it rewards the adaptation to what gamers demand. I only hope that the next game that is polished at launch is not by Blizzard, as this shows a blatant inability for the business model in MMO to adapt to the market standard. Yes, IMO Blizzard has set the standard with WOW (Business model wise). These are my opinions, but I believe we should continue as a community to push the gaming business in the right direction.

I was really looking forward to AoC (and WAR as well, I like games - period, the more good ones & options the better in my opinion- I don't need one champion game to beat the rest). I tried the AoC pvp weekend, I tried the AoC beta - I wanted this to be good. Sadly, I'm disgusted so far on so many levels. AoC is not going to be a game I buy (shallow gameplay, shoddy performance - Vanguard beta ran better for me than this), and I'm VERY forgiving when it comes to MMOs. I should say I am in the WAR beta (which we are allowed to admit according to NDA so don't panic), so it may be shadowing my opinion of AoC. But I'll also say that I've found myself far more addicted to one of these games than I'd imagined possible at this stage considering how disappointing the MMO genre has been over the past few years. |

..... ....... .............................
Someone used the "13 levels isn't enough!" angle again, didn't they? I swear to god.....
No, I'm not going to do it again. You are all right about EVERYTHING! 13 levels isn't enough to judge a game! Why, we should ALL have to play a game for 3 months before enjoying it! YES THATS IT! 3 months! Then, if its fun, we should hail it as master over us. There is no need to even bother THINKING about those other levels, they don't matter. Ignorable content, perfectly suitable to pass over and hate without regard to the company because its all about the end.
I really think some of you have lost your minds.
As for the whole "WoW 2" thing... An MMO could only HOPE to be WoW 2. If anything, based on game mechanics and progression, AoC is shaping up to be more like WoW than WAR anyway. Forgive me, WoW with a handful of extra buttons to press. I think it would be wise to not spout off with these "WoW sux" attacks when virtually every game is based loosely on the same structure. If WoW sucks, then so does EQ, AoC, WAR, every Free to play ever made, EQ 2, Vanguard, LoTR, and Aion. They are all doing the same crap. Save one TINY thing...that being that WAR chose to focus more on PvP than WoW did. I don't mind fans from either side using intelligence behind their reason. If you like apples, just say you like apples. Don't go shooting off nonsense about oranges, especially when your apples are grown in the same bloody orchard. If farmer bob sucks at picking oranges, he sucked at picking your precious apple too. |

Originally posted by Battlekruse I think thats an ongoing problem in ANY MMO ...specifically in pvp where there are large numbers of people attacking/defending. Frame rates drop drastically...and the person you were fighting/targetting is no longer in the spot you thought they were...... I have seen this in AO pvp, Lotro pvp, Wow pvp. Daoc pvp even original Everquest with the GM events.... and have asked the question numerous times with different "Ask the Dev" threads...but have not gotten a direct reply whether or not this...will some day in the future be possible to do without freezing up or crashing to desktop. Attacking Orgrimmar in Wow..back in the early days...rofl....masses of people inside and outside, my computer just stopped completely...froze, couldn't handle all the incoming data ..or maybe it was my cable...who knows. Couldn't log back in either...heh..but when I did I was dead...missed the whole war. :) Massive battles would be lovely to watch and participate in...if only we were able to do that....so have to fully agree with your post. :)

Originally posted by JeehaoOkay ..we get that you like Warhammer..and that you don't like AOC for your own personal reasons. :) As far as being able to test certain areas of a closed beta game...thats entirely up to the Devs, ...sometimes they want "some" things to still be surprises upon release..OR they have internal testers working on that area..for their own specific important reasons. I don't think that has any bearing on whether the game is "boring" or not....just choices the Devs have to make in the interests of building a good game....no matter what game it is or what Devs. :) Been in a few closed betas myself.....closed is where alot of the important work on the game takes place....be that for the bad or the good. hehehe Cend |
