This game is 2 weeks from launch, if there is a lot of problems now it will not be fixed. The game has gone gold, that means everything you see is final. The most you can hope for is a small patch that fixes minor bugs, and minor balance issues. Why do we still get these responses claiming that the game will go through some revolutionary improvement? You guys all claim to be old time players of mmos, seriously name a single mmo that has this many problems that has released a miracle patch at launch. There isn't one. Even if they do remove all the bugs and technical problems which is possible or within reason if they have another engine which for some very odd reason they do not feel the need to test along with all their main features. Do you honestly believe that they are going to improve the actual gameplay mechanics. It does not take more than an hour to find out if you like a game, if it does then it is a terrible game because players do not care if they can have fun in 20 levels if the first 13 are boring to them. They have previewed the tutorial area where they have shown the basic mechanics of the game, if those basic mechanics are crap or do not appeal to people saying its button mashing combat for instance, then the advance mechanics will not be any better for those that do not like even the basics of the game. Funcom knows that open beta in this day and age is for marketing, what you see IS what you will get, hyping yourselfs up to think you will get something completly different will just mean that you will be disapointed come release. It will take atleast 3 months to fix the amount of problems being reported for this game, the core mechanics however can not be fixed. The only thing that does not hold water in these beta reviews is complaining about lag, because they were stress testing the servers, obviously that will improve at launch along with any other server problems they encountered. That is it, if people do not like what they see now despite the bugs then they will not like the game period trying to call them noobs or idiots for it is beyond a joke, the only people that look stupid are the ones that are trying to claim that this game will have a miracle patch come launch who then shoot down everyone else that says any thing negative about the game. I can not believe you guys are trying to claim this game is going to attract a mature community either, when you act like little children seeing everything through rose coloured glasses then insulting the people that point out the flaws of the game, do you see them making fun of you? seriously grow up it is a game, if that game has flaws live with it do not insult others pointing them out. |

Originally posted by Gishgeron That was a pretty good post, Gishgeron and the above quoted line hits the bullseye. It's not about the game itself, but rather the way Funcom trying to sell it to us: Hyping up a "next gen" title while under the hood there is just NOTHING next gen about it. In fact, the way how many things are implemented is rather a step backwards compared to today's titles. -Instances/loading screens left and right -mostly totally linear level design, so often you are getting funneled through a pipe instead of exploring an open world. -the combat system which Funcom proclaimed as "revolutionary" is nothing but the same button smashing except for the missing auto-attack. The world design with zoning everywhere, narrow tunnels instead of free roaming smells so much like tailored for the Xbox abilities, as the combat mechanics smell like joypad. They didn't just announce, but over-hyped a "next gen" title and delivered a console game that beside Dx10 offers absolutely nothing next gen. There are games out there released a couple of years ago which despite their age are steps ahead of AoC in certain technical and core aspects.

The one for the "File-Planet" beta which is a pretty old build from what has been going around, and the "General Beta" beta which is a really solid build and also has things like crafting, mounts and other things. Will there be bugs at launch. Yes there will. Will it be the same bugs people in the file planet beta are receiving. For the most part probably not. Will we get the lastest build? Hopefully. As stated in my blog, I'm pretty shocked Funcom gave people this build for a beta. Maybe it's because they didn't have enough time to code in the cap and restrictions into the newest build before the IGN File planet beta started. Who knows really. But do i think there will be some revolutionary patch that will make this game bug free. NO! I have not played a game yet to date that is bug free. Even WoW with it's 10 million + customer's and huge bankroll still has bugs in there client. I think Funcom did bad on releasing a crappy beta build, but I will definatly give them the benefit of the doubt having enjoyed some "General" beta glimpses. I think people need to get around this whole assumption the a MMO launch should be flawless idea, because it will never happen. Yes you can have a stable release, but bugs wills till be there regardless. If you dont believe me, ask the people over at Mythic, as I think DaoC had the best Launch yet still has bugs in their client. Shoot they even rolled out a whole expansion the was later removed due to its sheer crappyness of coding on their part. Either way MMO's will always be in beta, as long as people are playing them, it's more so how they deliver if it will ever be worth it. |

After reading this article: http://gameratty.com/article/b9e53a66b16b4a75fe7aa0ef0d84c154 and others I am really confused about what funcom is doing? They have a good game that from the closed beta testers words and articles (since the NDA is partly lifted) is a great game and then they present an old hardly working version of the game to the world in the stress test?!? Didnt they realize that this would probably have a huge impact on how people will look at the game? Dont they understand that words from fellow players means a 100 times more than professional reviews when it comes to MMOs? And now it will spread out that this game is bad because it had made a very bad first impression among large parts of the player base and you dont get second chances. Can the harm ever be undone? I dont know. Someone at funcom should considder his position atm. That being said the sharks who roams boards like these is smelling blood and is now using this to their full advantage. Players who love other games has an interest in hurting a game like AoC because the more people who leave their game to play a game like AoC the more their personal game experiene in the games they like is hurt. So when they see a good chance to discredit AoC they will use it. "You are the hero our legends have foretold will save our tribe, therefore please go kill 10 pigs." |

put out whatever argument you want, a fact of life is that no one wants to work for free. beta is either a free chance to play a game, or it's a job where you test for bugs and such. how much are these beta testers being paid?
you get what you pay for.
they're being paid nothing? i guess that the company paying them nothing should expect... nothing.
they should expect any non-paid beta tester, at best, to be a free advert.
i'm sure there are some people who feel it is their god-obligated duty to actually perform 'beta testing' for free, so that a company can make multiple millions of dollars.
let that sink in for a minute.
free labor, company makes millions...
and companies should put forth realistic launch times. if they're not going to make the launch, all pushing it back multiple times does (for me) is make me lose any interest in the game. they can't set and make a realistic deadline, but i expect them to be competent enough to deliver a FUN game?
none of this is directed at any one company, it's directed at all companies to which it applies.
again, spin it however you want. a lot of people are tired of pissing away THEIR hard earned money on craptastic games and are tired of wasting THEIR precious time "beta testing" for free.
eventually enough clue lights will come on. could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please? |

It just doesn t make any sense. Why in gods name would a company put out a shittier version for a so called OB. This is the oposite of what they should do. I don t care about the oh it s to test this and that , it s just not smart. It s like trying to sell a car to people without paint. odd to say the least. |

well i actually had to pay for my education but ill give u a little lesson... why would a company want to give the public access to their product b4 they paid for it ? thats lesson 1 - More importantly tho would you want any competition out there knowing what you have b4 you even launch it yet, meaning also hackers working on hacks that could possibly work on the retail version? lesson2 and for anymore you have to pay me through PMs |
