"My soul finds rest in God alone: My salvation comes from Him."

I have been hearing a lot of crap about "Beta is for marketing." Since I have been gaming for the last 10 years I have NEVER heard of a beta being used as a marketing tool that's just stupid, this is a stress test and has nothing to do with anything other than that. They have to test their servers some how, so that way when 100k people login on the 20th the servers wont die or chug along slowly. People need to look up the definition of "Beta TESTING."

Closed beta is for testing and fixing bugs. The last few weeks (open beta) is mostly marketing and testing the capacity of the servers. Even Funcom admitted it. Where have you been for the last two years of MMO history?

Done.

                                                    Beta Test

A test for a computer product prior to commercial release. Beta testing is the last stage of testing, and normally can involve sending the product to beta test sites outside the company for real-world exposure or offering the product for a free trial download over the Internet. Beta testing is often preceded by a round of testing called alpha testing.

Beta testing comes after alpha testing. Versions of the software, known as beta versions, are released to a limited audience outside of the programming team. The software is released to groups of people so that further testing can ensure the product has few faults or bugs. Sometimes, beta versions are made available to the open public to increase the feedback field to a maximal number of future users

LAST STAGE OF TESTING. If they are on the last stage of testing why would we be testing using a client that is full of bugs that have already been fixed. Your right Funcom has the "Miracle Patch" locked away somewhere and are 100% confident in its performance that they dont need to test it during the FINAL stage of testing before release.

Why dont YOU look up the meaning of beta test before telling us to do it? GG

It's not even remotelly close to beta since u have to cough the money to get a fileplanet subscription. The testing is just a side-effect

We are testing the older client to check for server issues not for performance/game issues, they don't want to release the final client till release as to keep that "New" feeling we all like. And that definition you gave actually further proves my point, they are getting "further feedback" on the server related issues/lag. How about a normal response, opposed to a flame and learn to control your hormones.

Yes, the comapny intends to use it as a beta test. But all those people that bought FP accounts to play AoC look at it as a preview and a demo of the game. A test to see if its worth their money.

To say that this beta was not a trial/demo/advertisement is just naive. A very small few are actualy playing the game just to stress test the server. We all want to try the game to see if its for us.

      So what you mean is:

1) That the most current client is unable to test server issues.

2) The level cap of 13 was not put in place to keep that"new" feeling at launch.

3) Whenever someone answeres your Original Post just how you asked for it, bringing up valid points, that person has imbalanced horomones and is "flaming"...typical fancomboism.

Instead of calling me a flamer, why don't you back your argument up with something with more substance.

If this wasnt a marketing scheme they would not have contracted Fileplanet to open a "minisite" and advertise/host the beta for them. If you don't think that Funcom knows that based on the reaction's of this Open Beta has nothing to do with who is pre-ordering/buying the game on launch, your living in a dream world.

Is AoC that close to release?

Typically you see more of this stuff from people just wanting to preview the game rather than participate in the beta for its intended purpose.
