I got so much |
As you know i am running AOC on computer that is below MINIMUM requirements If I can run it , everyone can. So at first I thought game is playable - i got around 20 fps. But than I went to TORTAGE - the multiplay zone. And the game began to FREEZE. That is -1 FPS.... frozen for up to 1 minute. I thought , there you go! The game is unplayable around other players.... Well, i was wrong.
This is something they should have explained.... AOC client is dependant on so called "shaders". It renders them for every zone you enter for first time. So if you are entering a zone for first time - you are going to freeze , no mater what PC you are having. But after that is done , it is saved - and your PC will not freeze in this area anymore.
It is tested. I am playing on 4 years old pc. If i can play it , you can

what about when your in the wild, and the chunking between zones keeps freezing you up whenever you keep crossing over it? i get a 10 second lag , and it sucks when i been agrod and the mob suddenly appears over you. |

Interesting, that should stop the complaining of lag for a bit. |

Sounds like BF2, having to optimize shaders all the time, a real pain in the arse. |

first of all, heres my specs
phenom 9500, 8800gt, 3gb of ram
i was getting dumb fps drops, and i messed with my video settings, and by simply turning shadows off was able to play the game with everything else on high at 1440x900. So, just wanted to throw that out there for people having problems. my fps went from 20's to 40+ sometimes around 60.

Originally posted by Lobotomist Uhm, I'll blow up that theory. I've been freezing up all day. It certainly isn't my computer either. In fact, I've frozen about a half dozen times inside the Tortage city gates. I just froze twice in the night time quests, same area. It's really hard to test bugs when there are bugs that nearly prevent you from doing so.
I'm going to try and lower my shaders and see if that works.. I probably freeze once every 20 minutes. Not a 10 second freeze, not a one minute freeze, a freeze that is only fixed by ctrl+alt+delete and closing the application.
My FPS is pretty steady, between 30-70, depending on where I am. C2D 2.66 OC 3.2, 8gigs DDR2 800, 9800GTX Oc'd. Max settings on AA 2x. No bloom. Bloom drops 10-15FPS. So it's not like it has something to do with my system. It's just their outdated client that they haven't patched to fix it. Only 1280x1024 res, So I figure at 1600x1200, it would be around 30-50 FPS. |

Just turn off bloom and shadows, viola! 3-4 x more FPS |

One of the issues that FC needs to resolve pre-launch is that shader caches get corrupted or not saved properly and often have to rebuild themselves, so people will consistently experience shader loader on a regular basis (i.e. it's currently not a 1 time deal). I believe that they are working to fix this issue up so that it is close as possible to just needing to load them 1 time into your cache folder, but it's not quite there yet.
I believe recently it's improved a lot though. Hopefully they can do the same for the crashing issues :) |
