WAR (Warhammer Online)

Now that AOC is in open beta, its getting pretty bad reviews. I found this quote from Keen's review pretty interesting

"I’m going to be blunt. Funcom is lucky that WAR was delayed and Mythic should be kicking themselves that their game wasn’t ready in time to go against AoC. If these two games went head to head then AoC would have been obliterated and unless Funcom turns things around before Fall that’s precisely what will happen. Sorry if you disagree, but that is the truth of my opinion."

It seems from that statement that he has played WAR. So has WAR already won this contest?

Can't really say if they have been beaten yet. At least not until WAR comes out and everyone gets a chance to play it. I would like to think that WAR will be a great hit, but you never know.

I've seen pretty nasty reviews from BOTH. And also good from BOTH. Since I don't know the sources I choose not to listen to either the bad or the good ones but simply just try and gather info about the games from them.

And all I can say right now is that I would choose WAR over AoC anyday. But if I like AoC more I will play that when it comes. But untill both have been released I don't want to speculate which one is better than another because that is pretty pointless IMO

I think both will do just fine. WAR I think is going to be another WoW. Easy to play and easy to level with nothing really new except lore (Which I imagine wont last long either... about the same as WoWs). Also considering its EA I can think of the game turning into a UO, maybe SWG.

AoC  on the other hand made by Funcom will have more survivability I would think and has more lore to expand on and a bunch of new technologies from what I have seen. I don't want to play a game where a 12 year old can auto-attack me to death because he doesn't go to school and plays WAR all day. AoC fixes that problem for me.

In regards to that article, I think the author has shown his own bias towards WAR by making the statement you have quoted. As a beta tester in both all I can say is what has been said by both camps: Each game appeals and targets a different audience. You should ideally play whatever makes you happy and you have fun in!

Pls... Im a WAR fan but that is just ridiculos. That is hardly statistically representative for all us gamers that Keen and 5 of his buddies didnt like the game.

Just wanna say on a personal note i have never played AoC. But I hate these "WAR vs AoC" or "WAR vs MMO" threads. Stop comparing. Its not a fight. We should all hope that all new MMOs turn out well so that the market gets some competition.

I think you missed some of the information about WAR here in your post. To be honest with you WAR has to be one of the most casual friendly games I have ever seen that has a RvR focus (according to what has been released). It won't be to everyone's liking, but there are new and innovative aspects in both games (along with new technologies in both).

Sometimes I wonder if people on these forums actually enjoy gaming, or are here for entirely different reasons.

Of course WAR has not already defeated AoC, what a ridiculous proposition.

What I would like more than anything else is to see both games do well, and for both games to push boundaries in new directions.

Any real gamer would agree. Anyone championing the success of one game at the expense of the downfall of another clearly has issues.

Just because one person said that WAR was great does not mean that AOC has already been beaten.  Just because one person said something doessn't mean it will suit everyone.

We will never really know until both games are released and are on the market.

I just thought that was a pretty strong statement. He must think WAR is a much , much better game than AOC.
