I do not understand why people want solo play in an MMORPG. Do they even know that MMORPG stands for Massively MULTIPLAYER online role playing game. If people want solo play they can go have fun on their consoles, Kingdom heart and such games suit them. MMOPRG is all about playing together but nowdays I see people demanding more and more solo play. I guess you could say you dont have time so you dont have time to find a group but then what about the people who do have time solo play completely spoils the game for them at least it does for me. I have read many threads where people bash games just because they dont have solo play, if you dont have around 1 hour to play everyday then i think you shouldnt be playing an MMORPG in the first place. Grouping can be easily solved if you are in a guild and almost all games gave a guild function so the crappy excuse of not having time to find a group is pretty stupid. These so called SOLOERS would be better of playing consoles or games like the Witcher or Oblivion where you can play the full game completely solo and still have quite a lot of fun.

Just FYI I am not a newbie to MMORPG's and have been playing them since Ragnarok released.

MMORPG Character Monuments

...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest...

I like having the option of Solo play in MMOs. Sometimes the group just falls apart, the raid has to end early, or...you just need a little "Me' time

Mostly I like to play solo, but that doesn't mean I want to play solo in a vacuum.

I like to have people around me, I like having the chat and being able ask or answer questions, I like a living economy, I like others to be able to see my accomplishments.

Sometimes I like to help people out and sometimes I like to group.  But groups aren't always available, and when they are they aren't always on the same page.  I hate doing most quests in a group, either someone in the group has done the quest before and you just feel like you are getting dragged along behind them, or the group falls to pieces before you finish it.

I do like a good dungeon crawl however.

I had a pretty good answer for you, till I read further down the thread. Delameko took the words right out of my mouth.

I get lonely in single player games. That's not the only reason though, I like to kill other people (I love Fighting Games) for the challenge. I don't play many single player games and single player RPGs only last for so long. There really isn't a challenge in computer AI characters for me. So, if I play console games or pretty much any game it's online or with friends.

But, killing people isn't the only reason I look to an MMORPG. I like to be around ppl. I always have, on the computer and in real life. I like to talk and bullshit. Grouping is usually a pain in the ass because you have to find this class, with this subclass, with this level, who wants to go with you at this time. It's a hassle.

I also play the economy in any game I pick up. I love player run stores and I love auction houses. It gives me a chance to break away from killing mobs, ppl, or chatting and let me dive into my own game.

Exactly.

Other players still do have some affect, even if you're solo'ing.

"The sad truth is that excellence makes people nervous. - Shana Alexander"

"MMORPG= Massive MULTIPLAYER Online Role Playing Game"
So, MULTIPLAYER, why shouldn't you able to solo a MMOPRG?, Just cause it's a multiplayer game, you shoulnd't have to do all the tasks with a friend just cause it's a MMORPG. I know many games that you got quests that you do alone, and that is one way of "soloing" a game. The game just supports multiplayer so more then one person can play at the same time. Of course you can play with friends that is just a feature that is really funny to be in a party.

People can solo a game just to catch up to a friends level or they maybe are some kind of bet like who will get to highest level this week, they'd rather prefer to solo the game then cause it will not take so long time in difference from slow leveling parties.

*Edit: My English is getting weird now, starting to get sleepy.

Because "solo" in this case ONLY means solo PvE and does NOT cover all the multi-player activities. Here are some multi-player activities that solo adventures would love:

1) AH/trading & other econ activities. I can get that cool sword to be used on my solo adventure without the multiplayer trading system.

2) to show off my stuff. No one will see my cool robe unless i am in a multiplayer game.

3) to chat. I don't like playing alone and i would like someone to talk to when i hack-n-slash.

OMG! Ponies!

I too get lonely in single player games. Some games are built in such a way that finding a group would make it TERRIBLE to play. Sometimes there just isn't anyone around. Waiting isn't any fun. Being able to chat, however, is fun if you can't find a group. You can't exactly form a guild or anything in a single player game.

I do agree that more group content should be developed. It shouldn't be hell on earth finding a group though.

Sounds like a personal problem to me.
