I got so much
trouble on my mind
Refuse to lose.

I just have to write this.

Remember Vanguard

Remember the mysterious DEBBUGER , it sopposedly  had in open beta , that was bogging all performance and causing FPS lag ?

How we were told that performance will jump at retail , as soon that they remove DEBUGGER ?

Well it never did, guess why ?

1 month before release. When game is already gold. Thats it. The game is finished. If there is any work to be done , it is in repairing obvious bugs , not performance.

Open beta is more or less a public demo , something to judge how crowd accepts the game.

Its not the beta where they repair the game.

SO

What you see now. This is 99% accurate picture of what AOC is and will be.

Vanguard was a coding mess due to no management or direction from Brad McQuaid.

In AoC, it is the debugger. if you run the game from the .exe file in your AoC folder instead of the patcher, you will see the dos box come up and see the debugger compiling as you wait for the game to load.

Another issue wuth the lag is that the textures are non-compressed, so the debugger can do it's job and texture problems can be found/fixed easier ( this is also why the client is bigger than it needs to be ).

Also, the 3.0 shaders take a while to compile in debug mode ( I kick the shaders down to 2.0 and get a much faster load/compile time ), which is where the stutter when you enter new areas comes from.

Also, support for dual/quad core processors isn't in the beta build yet, SLI compatibility is not in the beta build yet, and dx10 is not in the beta build yet. This is one reason I get better performance with my 3 year old computer than those with brand new multi-core comps with dx10 graphic cards.

This is beta. These are things that are being dealt with in beta. You've known me on this site for many years. I'm one of the most critical and negative people on this site when it comes to devs and new games, Lobo. I wouldn't say this game looks to have a good chance of making a smooth release if I didn't believe it myself.

you would think that after all these years with releases like Vanguard and Dark and Light  had people would learn but I guess not. These boards are a copy and paste of Vanguards boards when it had it's open beta.  After all of these years with releases like Dark and Light , Vanguard and other pile of poop people would have a clue but I guess not. What you see 3 weeks before release is the best they have. It's not like companies want to piss off all their future customers 3 weeks before release. Open beta is supposed to be about wowing their fans and getting people to pre order, closed beta is where the bug fixes and optimization is supposed to happen.

Good luck to the people waiting on miracle build 2.0.

Well, considering that Funcom rep did say that this beta uses even older client than the PvP weekend beta...

I could not agree more with this guy. People that are saying "it's not out yet, stop judging this client" are delusional or they have ZERO experience or knowledge of MMO history.

Being around the genre for nearly a decade, this is so obvious that this game is going to be dead after the first month. They're hiding all of the bugs and all of the missing crap, that's why they're only letting players play up to level 13, and PVE only (god forbid they don't want to piss off the PVP'er base as well and make them realize it's gonna suck).

This is a spitting image of this point in Vanguards timeline. A few weeks before launch, all of the fanbois out in full effect saying "NOTHING CAN TAKE DOWN MY GAME! SHUTUP! IT'S NOT OUT YET!", then 2 weeks into launch "Oh the miracle patch little Brad promised will be here any day now", then a month into launch suddenly the fanbois are saying "WTF BRAD WHERE'S THE PATCH?!", then they just don't resubscribe after the first month and they go on to say "wow, I adamantly defended that game, I feel like a tool *puts down my vanguard fanboi hat*".

You could replace "Vanguard" with "AOC" in that last paragraph, and you will see a factual story in about 1 months, 2 weeks time.

-----------------------------------------
The MMO genre needs innovators. People not afraid to deviate from the "WoW is an ATM machine" mentality and think outside the box to make something truly different and fun. I'm sick of paying $50 for virtual treadmills.
