I don't recall pointing anyone out in particular. Relax!

I'd like to run AoC smoothly on a resolution of 1280x1024 - which component should I upgrade first? I'm thinking about buying a 9600GT 512, but do any of you techies think I should get a better processor instead perhaps?

If I had to pick one, based upon your Rig, I'd go with the better Video Card.  I currently have the AMD 4800+  paired with the 7900 GTX, and do pretty well at 1920 x 1200.   At first, I was going to slip in a 9700 GTX, but decided to upgrade the cpu as well to the Intel 8400.   That led to a new motherboard and a lot more than I intended, but that's another story.

You really would benefit by a better CPU and GPU, and likely wouldn't make a mistake picking either to upgrade, but like I said, I'd go with a better GPU and more onboard memory.

Sorry if I'm naive, but does "ballin" mean "fast" or "slow"?   I just ordered the same Motherboard and CPU, but going with a single 9700 GTX, 4 gigs of G.Skill, 160 gig Raptor, and Fatality Champion.  That board got awesome reviews and seems like an overclockers dream.   Can't wait to get my hands on it.   Picked up the Intel 8400 for $200.

Thanks guys, for making this a very informative thread.

Fast... Very fast! Hehe don't mind the slang, it comes from where I grew up. Thanks for asking though dude.

MMORPGs are great to look forward to after a hard day of work, but heaven is the ultimate reward for those who live Christ-like.

"It is a mistake to bow to the wishes of munchkins who whine." - E. Gary Gygax

Intel Pentium 6850 (3000) 4GB DDR3
Asus Maximus Formula X38
GeForce 8800GTS @ 1680*1050/32
Soundblaster X-Fi
Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 750GB@7200
Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit

Seetings: High Detail Settings, no AA, no Bloom, no global shadows, DX9

Resolution: 1680*1050@32

Outside Tortage: Usually 60 fps + , rarely drops to 40

Inside Tortage: 30-40 fps

Loading times Underhall (first time 40 secs, after that about 10 secs)

Loading times within Underhalls (almost instantly, 1-3 secs)

Loading times White Sands (first time 43 secs, after that about 10 secs)

Loading times Acheronian Ruins: (first time 30 secs, after that about 5 secs)

In other words: The game works like a charm for me

P.s.: When I write "first time" then I mean entering said dungeon/instance for the very first time. After that it will always load faster since it has cached/applied everything from that moment on.

Roughly translated: Most people won't buy this game because the economy blows so bad right now that people can't afford to go buying new PC's.

And by people, I mean the majority, which is what MAKES an MMO feel alive. So please, you few kids out there with mommy and daddy paying for your new dell, spare us. The polls showed the majority looking to play this game are somewhere in their 20's, and last time I checked, not a whole lot of 20 somethings have the cash right now to buy new pc's, let alone fill up their gas tanks.

-----------------------------------------
The MMO genre needs innovators. People not afraid to deviate from the "WoW is an ATM machine" mentality and think outside the box to make something truly different and fun. I'm sick of paying $50 for virtual treadmills.
