I have a 8800 GTS 320MB card and I want to SLI it but I heard you need the exact same card..... Does this mean the EXACT brand and everything? I was looking on newegg and there aer lke 742782 different kinds of 8800GTS 320MB with different speeds and everything. What do I do? |

According to NVIDIA, they no longer need to be the exact same model EXCEPT for the 8800 GTX 512mb for some reason. SO yes you can SLI with another one of those or any other NVIDIA based card ... but bear in mind that although it will speed graphics rendering.... the 320mb of texture memory is your real bottle neck and each card has to load all textures, the memory of the two cards DOES NOT combine.

SLI cards do not have to be the same brand, just get any 8800GTS 320mb card. It can have higher clock speeds than the one you already own, but when put in SLI I think it will get knocked down to the lowest cards speed, so would be a waste to spend the extra money on a pre-overclocked card. Always best to get the same exact card though....then you can do any modding, overclocking yourself and get the same specs applied to both cards |

retract my previous statement.... they have to be same model but can be different brand.... I must have read someone elses poor paraphrasing of NVIDIA FAQ http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_faq.html#c3 Can I mix and match graphics cards? Can I mix and match graphics cards is one of them is overclocked by the manufacturer? Can I mix and match graphics cards with different sizes of memory? What power supply does NVIDIA recommend for an SLI system? |
