Here to end your arguments.

What do you guys think?

Forum Poll

Should a game be judged a year before release or only by release?

Ya if there is enough leaked info and on the game
No a year before release content of that game would change dramatically by release
Maybe you really have to wait until open beta and make up your mind

No such thing as luck, just believing in it is what makes it real to you and really...thats all you need.

Im on nobodies' side but my own.

Yeah there is a lot of judging going on before the game release, but you can only truly come to a conclusion about the game after the release and after you have actually played it. Basing it of hearsay and pre release content is just silly. I have to admit I am often guilty of such things.

Cynical? Me? Never.

I judge a game when I'm playing it. I refuse to bend on that.

Oh, sorry I replied before I read. You mean when to judge a game based on hype or heresay? I judge it based on the number of people saying its great vs. the number saying it sucks. If there is an overwhelming number saying the game isn't good I've learned that I won't like it either.

I''ve beta 3 games, and none of those games changed beefore release. A game can't change dramatically before its release date. They've invested too many resources to change course. I don't get why people think a game will have some sort of magic patch to cure AIDS.

i think after the 1st 30 to 60 days are up is the most telling time for a game.

1. it gives devs time to patch in content that wasnt quit ready when the game went gold. either patched in or at least announce it anyways

2. it gives the hardcore players plenty of time to see what the end game is about or even if there is one. time to look for the "i'm bored" posts.

3. it'll be time for most to decide to subscribe or not. a games community on a whole says alot about a game and its future.

Add an other option.  It really doesnt matter when you judge it. Read the basis of the game and decide if its for you. Doesnt matter if its the verry first announcment about the game or if the game has been out for years. If your interested in the game then play it, if not dont. To decide if the game is good or bad though is plain stupid untill you have actually played it.

I THINK war is going to be awesome but guess what........it may verry well suck. I think AoC's combat system is going to suck but it may be just what the doctor ordered. Never know till I play both :)

EQ-WoW raider

i usually judge an MMO upon released on the first 1-5 levels. If there is a lack of bugs, fun gameplay and a certain level of polish within those 5 levels then you know the devs have done a good job. If they tell you that fun part of the game is above xx level then they have failed, simple as that.

You can either agree with me or be wrong!

I'd feel stupid if I said there was only one moment where I judged a game.

There are plenty of moments where I do that, before a game is released till after a game is released. The ones I consider good and fitting for me are the ones where I at least get to a few judgements after release.

Played : WOW,LOTRO,COH/COV, EQ2,SWG,AOC. Playing EVE Online.
Waiting for WAR,STO,and Earthrise

I judge a game after ive played it for a couple days.  i judge the game by the following:

1. Overall visual and feel of the game.

2. ease of gameplay.....tutorials etc

3. community

4. good rate of advancement, but not too fast.

5. size of the "world" or environments

6. solo vs party or raid quests

7. type of quests or quality of the quests in regards to overall story or the world itself

8. crafting systems

Some of these can be ignored in favor of a great game. right now im Playing EVE online and EQ2 until War comes out but i'll still play the other 2 and check in. :-)
