Live Life today, Because tomorrow is but a dream and yesterday only a
memory!

Hi all i hope some 1 can help me here i have tried all options on the official forums but to no success

I used to play this game on my AMD athlon 2800+ with 1 gb of ram and a 9550 256mb apg Vid card flawlessly and i recently updated that dinosaur to an AMD AM2 5200+ 4gb of ram an 8600tg 512mb vid card 160gb wetern digital heard drive, but here is my Problem it was only every now and again but now happens all too frequently i will be playing away even if i am just fishing and my screen just goes black and is unrecoverable? every thing in the background is still happening but i have no screen so i then have Alt,Ctrl,Del then close the Program and start again, i then occasionally get about 10 minutes in then BAM!! crashes again? in the Midst of all this i get an error stating that the Video drivers have failed and have recovered so i know there is a problem with the card somewhere in amongst this but the card works perfectly for all other games including Vanguard,e.t.c so i know the Video card has not crapped itself but there is an issue With LoTRO.

Now i love this game but this is getting frustrating i have tried all new drivers even beta one's i have tried all old drivers i even tried to do someservice pack 1 which killed my PC and i had to do a clean install of Vista, Oh and before people jump on it may be a vista issue the game was actually running crap on XP with this setup but with Vista it runs smooth as when i can actually stay on long enough to get my Toon to move a step ot 2.

If some 1 can tell me how to input my Direct X files into that little scrollable window then i will upload it but for now i dont want the post to be a million miles long :).

I hope some 1 can help me many thx in advance.

Cause if you lose your head & you give up then you neither live nor win, that''s just the way it is.

I had this problem also, Turbine suggested trying older drivers...didn't work. What I found to work was turning down the clock freq on my video card. Seems OCing it to a certain point will cause the driver problems. This was confirmed and listed on my cards site which is a Radeon. Give that a try.

Yeah, I was fine until then also. I have just tested this again. I get past a certain point in the freq and mem on the card in ocing and wham, it goes dark then the driver fails. Just got to find that magic point now, so I can get good performance.

The nine most terrifying words are: I''m from the government and I''m here to help. -Reagan

My wife's PC was locking up on LOTRO (only game she plays) and it ended up being a problem with the fan.  I blew out the fan with some compressed air and a chunk of dust flew out that was stuck inside the coil.  After that it has worked fine.  She runs the game on an AMD 64 X2 4600+ 7600GT 256MB card and 2 gigs of ram and it runs at the high setting with about 50FPS.

We are a nation that has a government — not the other way around. And this makes us special among the nations of the Earth. Our government has no power except that granted it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed." ---Ronald Reagan

I would say maybe card is overheating but the only way of knowing is to try a game that will push the card in a similar way and see if it happens with it too. If it does then it could be a driver or overheating problem.

Honestly this sounds like an over heat issue.  If you say the sytem runs vanguard and other games perfectly, do any of those use DX10?  If not try lowering the ability of your card, turn down all the frill, don't use the max graphics, try running it at 1024x768 with everything on Medium.  This should not be an issue for your card at all, and I can't remember I have to look again but I believe you can turn off the DX10 support in LOTRO, if you can turn that off as well.  All these things will decrease how much work your card has to do, then see how long it lasts in LOTRO, if it fixes the issue, then I would check my heatsink make sure it is snug, if you can tighten it then do that.  Next if the heatsink is good check the temp inside your case, make sure you have good airflow.  The next step is to decrease your clock speed on your card down to a normal frequency, and any of that works then great.  If it doesn't work then simply take the card back and get it replaced, tell them the card keeps over heating during DX10 games.  Get a new one and hopefully your problem will be fixed.

thx for the reply's every 1 :) i found there was an option in the launcher to reset my graphics card so i done this and logged in fine  i had to up a few things to get it looking sweet again but seems to working for now.

I have 8 fans in my Pc so there is no issue with airflow lol but i guess that if i keep getting this issue i will try replacing the card and see what happens.

thx again.
