OK. I am curious. I myself would love to see a good MMORPG with "true"FPS (Battlefield 2) type combat created. If such a game were made would you play it. Yes stats would determine what you could play. I weakingly character could not be a heavy grunt, just as heavy grunt with half a brain could not be a combat engineer. So yes the game would have stats like strength, agility, endurance, intelligence. The question is.

Ive never been a fan of MMO style combat, so yes, I would definately play a MMOFPS. As the tech improves I have no doubt that this sub-genre will really start to grow. |

The Agency is supposed to be one. One of the tag lines they're running with is "head shots are head shots", or something like that. Basically a head shot will kill you; a far cry from past MMOs with guns in them. |

I would if the game didn't just rely on how quick you are. I get bored of the online FPS games that just have people running out and jumping around firing at each other. Those games the people with the quickest reaction times wins and less on strategy. I like the way some single player FPS games are, like Gears of War where you have to use cover, and games like Hitman where you have to sneak around and kill silently. I like games that you use your brain as well as some reaction time. If you want to sneak around you can still beat someone who just runs and fires. Another way to do it would be that your character has to learn. He/she won't be a perfect shot unless they train and do missions. Yes its kind of like the way the MMO's and I would like to see it more like RF online where you don't have to add points but as you do something (fire a gun, kill silently) you get points automatically added to that action. This could also work in an FPS game, you would just start out not being a sharpshooter or perfect in everything but in time you'd get better. If you in reality picked up a sniper rifle you wouldn't be a great shot at first. Also I'd like to see when you're outdoors things work differently than indoors. For instance when snipering you have to worry about wind and humidity like in real life so you have to learn to be a good shot. If someone can make an MMOFPS/RPG like this with more options then yes I'd love to play it. A lot of devs take the easy way out and a lot of players would rather just jump around and fire each other like jumping beans than use their brains. |

Yes, if the FPS complements the RPG aspects (character progression, environmental persistence and the like...) of the title. -- Brede |

It could work with player run servers, although it wouldn't be a "massively multiplayer game" as we are used to see. "If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe." - Carl Sagan |

YES PLEASE. can't wait for a decent mmofps. bring on elder scrolls online!
play crysis online. its kind of like battlefield, but in some ways reminds me of mmo's. for a start you have a energy bar which is basicaly a sci-fi magic bar, you can use to go invisible for a short time to sneak up on people. or use it to run real fast or jump really high or punch really hard etc. plus you earn points (like exp eh?!) when you capture points or kill, which you spend on getting better weapons/vechicles/equipment. each game you everyone starts rock bottom which is a difference. but I really recomend it, especially if you have a decent PC. would love to see any mmo resembling oblivion/crysis/battlefield. I love the depth and social side of mmos, but miss the twitch adrenaline combat. |

Planetside is still there and is the best in this genre. It's been out for almost 5 years now but no one has really tried anything like it except a few Asian developed titles supposedly coming out soon. Really though, if you liked FPS's that much it's easier to start up CS, Battle Field or CoD and have at it. RPG/FPS's closest would have to be Tabula Rasa, but it's not a true fps. Neocron is there but the title isn't that stable and last I checked a few years ago the engine was undeveloped. There is Endless Ages, I'll defer it to someone who has played it more than I have. You could also go to SOE Infantry, it was a station pass game now it's completely free. For the RPG aspects one could play at EOL if its still populated. It's not FPS but along the same lines as Machine Hunter, a top down action shooter released in 1997. At last there is WWII Online, be prepared for a large learning curve. I would play it if it weren't for my general disinterest at the setting. Truthfully, there are a lot in the genre of MMO FPS/RPG/Action, it's merely there aren't any that would attract the kind of player base that an MMORPG attracts. They are less accessible and less abstract. It's not really about levels or equipment, it's about the right equipment and having the proficiency of using them in an intelligent and effective way. The game play is more direct than a RPG. Out of all of them I suggest Planetside, it is the most polished and developed out of the bunch. |

Probably yes. Depends on how much there is to do, not just a large FPS game with 1000 vs 1000 instead of 32 vs 32 |

Its not like it hasn't been done before, Neocron comes to mind. There's probably others too.

Neocron was pretty cool for it's time. Would be nice to see a true sequel. |

Sure. I'd need a new mouse since mine is terrible for FPS, and even after that I'd still suck at it, but for me those aren't reasons to avoid it. |

Anyways, an MMORPGFPS that resembles Deus Ex or System Shock 2 would be fantastic. I loved both of those games; especially Deus Ex. It was like a "sandbox FPS" if that makes sense. I still remember to this day a particular mission where I picked up the assault rifle off some dead friendly trooper and helped slaughter a bunch of bad guys with some NPC forces in a city park. After I completed the mission and was debriefed and then briefed for the next mission I had to go down to the weapon supply and get what I needed. The supply master wouldn't give me 7.62mm ammo for my assault rifle because he said I killed too many people on my previous mission. I loved that... |

No, MMORPG's are becoming anti-social enough with speedier combat. If you put FPS into there, then no one will ever have time to talk in group. |

Originally posted by pencilrick I talked more playing Planetside then any other game and I played Planetside longer then any other MMORPG I ever played. So I think you are wrong. In PS we had to comunicate way more because we worked as a team all the time. Soloing in Planetside was suicidal. That was why we had squads and platoons. ^_^ TS/Vent is your friend in PS. ![]() |
