Looking for a casual MMO and taking suggestions. Busy with school and work so want something I can just jump on for a few minutes, knock out a few quests, and still feel like I accomplished something. Right now I'm thinking DDO, LoTRO, or maybe even Hellgate London (even though I've heard it was bad, no idea on how it is now) anyway any suggestions would be greatly appricated. Not looking for a flame war over what's best, just friendly suggestions.

Just coming from eq2 and while I agree it may be casual at the lower levels, it most very much is not at the higher. I'm about level 35, and there's nothing casual about it.

Guild Wars is the best choice among most of the most popular ones.

You can jump in for a few pvp matches, quests, missions or just exploration and jump out to your private life and still have the feeling that you accomplished something since you came further to the story, learned more about it and was actually also a part of it. :)

Other than that there are a few good free mmos out there that you could try out but mostly action based and in a more anime style then western type of style or a mix.

Lord of the Rings Online or World of Warcraft are 2 very casual, extremely easy games..both are really good games IMO allthough the general WoW community is one of the worse online communities I have ever encountered. Dont get me wrong, you can find good people ,but  not many.

The biggiest game wise differences are the art direction... warcrafts cartoon vs. LotRos artsy style.  WoW has much better PvP play, and of course LotRs legendary story line.

Hmm..EQ2 is as casual as it get's these days..even up all the way to 80 mind you..

I do not know what gave you the idea that it's not casual, but maybe you didnt look hard enough, or maybe you mean casual to the point you do not even have to look ?
Well, if that is the case maybe Tabula Rasa suits you better or yeah Hellgate London.. :) In these games you do not have to think, just blast on

Sometimes I log into City of Heroes 15 minutes before I go to work when I'm running early.  I can usually get a mission done and check my auctions.  Level isn't really relevant to that time frame.

It's not that I don't want to think. Just as much as I love eq2 (which I really, really do) I found myself playing it way, way to much. I mean first you gotta make sure your gear is all repaired and at least still decent for your level, get to where the quest is, and then granted you can do quests pretty casually once you're all set up. I guess like the last poster said I want something that i can just log on to for like 15-30 mins and get a mission or two done... and forgot about CoH... thant's always an option. :)

DDO is pretty casual friendly, most quests are not long, finding a group is quick and easy & there are the explorer areas to kill a few minutes in.

You're describing a behavioral pattern which will make any game into a "hardcore grind".

I think you need to reassess how you play. The problem doesn't appear to be in the game itself.

As for other suggestions...LoTRO and WoW are both very friendly to a quick run. So in Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ultima Online, and a number of other games.

Why's that? Why should someone need to adjust his life and life style to a video game? The problem actually is in the fact that there are barely any online multiplayer games that you can play just for a short periods of time.

Never played WoW, but in LoTRO it's difficult to do something in 15 minutes too. Your gear needs repair, and you need to travel a lot too, which can take up a lot of time. I would indeed suggest Guildwars, Hellgate (even though I am reluctant to advice Hellgate, since the game was really buggy and crashy when it launched; don't know how it is now) and the upcoming Mythos (if you can bear the cartoony style).

Playing: Guildwars, single player games
Played: UO (4 years), Lineage 2 (2 years), Guildwars (3,5 years), LoTRO (3 months), Hellgate: London (3 weeks), Pirates of the Burning Sea (CB, OB, 2 months retail), Warhammer Online (CB + OB + headstart), The Chronicles of Spellborn (CB)

Lord of the Rings Online is the most casual MMO at the moment, as it's the only one that doesn't have a change of focus to raiding at the cap (like WoW and EQ2).

Hmm..I'd like to know what you are basing this of..?

Is it the fact that you can solo all the way to 50 ?

or is it because the game holds your hand all the way up there ?

LOTRO is as casual as most MMO's today, You will certainly not get the whole game playing casually in LOTRO..Playing LOTRO just a few hours a day, may be somwhat rewarding but the to actually enjoy most of the game you will have to put as much time in it as both EQ2 or WoW..It's not very odd since these games are the model it's taken..You will have to group and you will have to more/less grind traits, raiding is optional thou..

Tabula rasa is the most "casual" game around or maybe Hellgate London

/Junker

I'd say that Tabula Rasa is the most casual game around

Guild Wars is very casual. You can pretty much solo your way through the whole game and the most missions or quests doesn't take more than 30 minutes to complete.

Id vote guild wars, as well.  Its free, doesnt require tons of time to get to end game stuff, too.  If u start getting busy and arent able to play, ur not wasting ur money cuz there arent any subscriptions.  so thats ur best bet.

Hi,

Many choises for you to choose from. You could give DDO a try although the game isn't a really mmorpg in my opinion. It has the same system as GW, but the only difference is it is pay2play.

So then you could give LOTRO a try, although I don't think that game is casual. I would more say it's a hardcore game.

WoW would be a good game for you aswell as CoX. Both very casual games where there are many things to do that can be completed whitin 20 minutes !

Dungeon Runners is designed for the 15-minute experience.  Even better, it's free to download and f2p unless you decide you like it so much you want membership  ($5/month gets you all the goodies and no ads).  It's a tiny install, too, compared to other games (500MB).

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

City of Heroes or Guild Wars would be your best options. Neither has a heavy grind, awesome PvP, quick action-oriented missions and City of Heroes doesn't require any equipment (everything is based on your super-powers and "enhancements") + very deep superhero costume customization.
