When I run the game, it shows it on the taskbar at the bottom of my screen, but it doesn't show it on the screen itself

Clench all you want, it''s still going in.

plus, the game takes a LONG time to initialize right now due to the loggers and debuggers having to start up as well.

Open Beta starts may 1st and make sure you have the right client which is the one from fileplanet not the one from gamespot pvp weekend.

Their inability to read? Even though the beta hasnt started you can still execute the client...Maybe that is what he is referring to.

To the OP - people are amused that you were wondering why the game won't launch, when open beta has not even started yet :) Perhaps that is not your issue though, could you further explain what you are trying to do? Maybe just install the game?
