Well you read a lot and I thought I would add my 2 cents on SWG. To put things into perspective, I bought this game in its huge black box and I was playing when I was living with a few friends on my old Pentium Toshiba laptop. Now I am married, my own 4 walls and I dont get much time to play any more. But I casually read these forums and thought, what the hell, lets load up ye old SWG and see what has happened. I tend to do this every few months to see what is going on. I still get a little smile when you load up SWG for the first time and see Star Wars An Empire Divided and the music plays and this time you get the little animation and Han Solo comes down, blah blah blah. Well skip forward two days and I am on the Farstar Server, still on the 14 day trial. Got to level 6 and I have seen a few people playing. Only managed to talk to one person and they had a few alts and wanted to try something different. I look at the graphics now and think, wow, how things moved on. They are still a few bugs in the animation but the skills are solid, the levelling up is okay. I found killing a lvl 6 at lvl 3 very easy as a smuggler. Problem is, the death animation seems to be so quick that you dont get a chance to see anything happening. I have got to level 6 and I will continue to play, get back down to Tantooine and see who is about. I dont have any friends that play SWG any more but its just curiousity that draws me back every so often. Please, this is not a thread to flame SOE and all that crap, I read all that, i dont care. I wanted to try this for myself and see what I get out of the game. I would not advise to really play this game as "your first mmorpg" because the expectation is far higher than what SWG can provide. Yes its old, yes it works (so far) and to be honest, I dont have the problem with the game. I loved it then, I like it now. Well, roll on WAR if I decide to play it. In fact, I will be buying Wii Fit tomorrow. Cant lose pounds stuck on a keyboard and mouse for over 8 hrs a day (office boy, hee hee). Well to all those who still play, I hope you are enjoying it, all those that dont play it, have fun in whatever you are playing. Going to be a busy two years with so many new intriguing mmo's coming out :) |

Nice post. Pretty straightforward. I say within 24 hours you are bound to have plenty of posts telling you why SWG sux. Anyway, glad to know you are enjoying the game and I can relate to a degree. When I started playing, I lived with 4 other friends... we had just graduated from college and were full of piss and vinegar. Now my wife and I live in Australia and my friends and I spend more time talking about fixing our roofs than what we do about what we did last weekend. Still those were great times when we could all geek out and play SWG after a game of RISK... OMG now that I think about it, I am amazed any of us ever got laid, let alone married. Thank God for women who settle! :)

I am in the same boat. My problem is that I have no idea what to do. I tried "leveling", running missions from terminals ( AO style), but is kinda shallow. People seems doing interesting stuff (I am at tatoine, in Mos Eisley). I kind of somewhat bored. What to do? where to go? is a good idea to run wild get a ship and go somewhere (like other planet) exploring? Can I buy a AT-AT and run rampage killing everybody in Mos Eisley? |

Well even back when I played the ground game was kind of shallow imo. The skill trees were what made it interesting. I still always like the space game. I am hoping to find well written quest, even if they are linear, a good guild on starsider, and hopefully some RP in the star wasrs universe. When i played before i rmeained guildless and just played with a friend hopefully having a guild will chnage my experiece. In the last few years since I logged on to SWG I think i have learned that the people you play with are the most important part about gaming. With great friends to experience it with even a mediocre game can be fun. -Dailus |

I log on to the servers, even Bloodin and can't find a soul that isn't standing around Mos Eisley spamming or AFK, or possibly a dozen or so doing PvP. That's it and that's all. The quests in SWG now are so boring and I simply won't bother leveling a toon. Kill X amount of rats here, X amount of rats there, do this 500 times. The game was built to be an open world where we can do what we want, when we want. Now it's just a restricted borefest. |

If you want, you can land off the tutorial station and go straight to Dathomir. Just like Pre-CU though, there's no guarantee you'd make it very far out of the outposts before you returned to the cloner ;) |

And I'm not about to spend the endless hours of boring and repetitive quests to level him up just to access the virtual world Raph Koster designed for us all to enjoy. |
