McCain for President

I'm excited for AoC.  However, I won't lie, I'm not fanboi.  I probably won't buy AoC right away.  With all the let downs seen in recent MMOs I'm going to play the safe card and wait a few months to see what the general population seems to be saying about the gameplay.  Instead I will be playing GTA IV for XBOX 360 for the time being lol.

However, I do think AoC will be a great MMO so I'm excited for it's release and hope all the bugs and kinks are worked out by the time I decide to start playing.  Unfortunatly, I thought the same thing about VSoH and TR lol.....please AoC don't let me down.

The nine most terrifying words are: I''m from the government and I''m here to help. -Reagan

Well I am probably at least going to give the game a try.  I upgraded my Video Card to an 8800GTS 512MB card.  I have an AMD 64 XP 4200+  4gigs of ram and I purchased Windows Home Premium 64-bit and a new Hard-drive as well.  Going to install Vista on that hard drive and boot that one with Vista and my games.  Everything else I will keep on my current HD that has XP on it.

We are a nation that has a government — not the other way around. And this makes us special among the nations of the Earth. Our government has no power except that granted it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed." ---Ronald Reagan

don't take the word of mouth on the requirements for this game; it's highly exaggerated. Don't get me wrong, the game is really high end, {snip}

There are tons of us out here that can read and read and study and meditate on these video cards and never really grasp what is happening.

Just within a single product like an 8800GTX GPU there is a range of between a few hundred and a thousand dollars

That doesn't include the 8800 GT, or GTS or the 7900 Alphabet soups or the 8600 series or now, to ruin my whole day, the 9800s??

Then there are dozens of manufacturers of the "same" 8800 product .  Then there are a half dozen different video RAM choices on the same card.  Mine is the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB DDR3 PVT80FSHF9  but what the heck does that even mean?  Will it run the game... most likely, but was it the best choice.. most likely not... grrrrr

Then we have Overclocked  ?

Underclocked ?

Burnt ?

Goldie Locks has nothing on the choices we have to make!

PS - Miam check your mail.

I've read that the GTX under-performs based on the price difference between a GTS and GT, but really its more than enough for AoC. I think trying CoD 4 and Crysis will tell you if you'll be able to play AoC without limitations, those are two high-end benchmarks atm, even though people claim Crysis is bloated.

But really, be my girlfriend? I dumped the last two because they were so jealous of me playing games and spending money on PC things.

I must be excited about Age of Conan.  What is weird is that I really know next to nothing about the game.  Perhaps that is why I am still tingly about its coming launch.  It has been so long since any good games have come out.  This past fall, Tabula Rasa was launched to somewhere between a yawn and angry disappointment from most of the gaming population.  AoC seems to have more public interest.

I have entered a pre-game preparation phase.  For some reason I want everything to be just right for this game that I know nothing about...

Many people are worried that their computers will not be up to the task of AoC, many others are worried that the poor beta rumors and 3-day pre-launch confusion and mount issues will go unresolved.

What have you done to prepare for this game's launch?

So far I have completely rebuilt a new computer to a super-chilled Quad Core (actually that was for Tablua Rasa)

> Changed the OS from XP 32bit to XP Pro 64bit.  To maximize my Quad and enable more RAM

> Slid in a new 8800GTX GPU tossing out the old (cough - year old at best) 8600GTS so I can be certain to be able to play this with good graphics settings.

> Tossed out the 4-Giggs of high end RAM (less that a year old too) and put in Four bars of 2Gigs each to maximize my memory.

> Bought Kinesis Foot Peddals to maximize my appendage interface for moving my shield around.

> Purchased a new LaCie 24" monitor to see the game better.

> Purchased the BestBuy preorder Rhino and 3-day pre-launch key

> Bought the Collectors Edition to get a the shiney new +2% Xp ring and some "Cloak of the Drunkard"

> Picked up a logitech G9 mouse... which I didn't like so wnet back to my thumb roller-ball one.

> Got a new Nostromo 52TE because it is a better color (black and neato blue) than my older black/silver/orange n52.

> and got a Warrior XXTreme secondary keyboard to have some fun extra keys to play with.

Even is this game stinks I have had a blast getting ready for it.  And worst case scenario I will be totaly ready for when War Hammer or Stargate Worlds or something else comes out later this fall!

Marry me? :D

Seriously though, I havent done much, just ramped my Ram and card up somewhat... nothing like you have but it's running Crysis beautifully so I'm pretty confident for AoC.

Can't wait for launch :)

Careful what you wish for cowboy :P You see that list for a game?  Imagine the list she puts together for her wedding.. :P

I agree - kinda scary. Keep your expectations low and you're less likely to be disappointed.

I though id treat myself too for AOC release, plus the next few years. Been awhile getting round to getting it coz had a couple kids in last 4 years so they swallowed most my money etc. Old systme was athlon 64 3000+ ati x1950 pro card, 1gig ram etc, so it was pretty outdated, could run LOTRO pretty well but i dont think it would of done much good for AOC. Im not one for knowing whats what in a puter so i just bought one off the net, i like it so far, Hope AOC gonna be a blast, if not at least i got somthing to handle future games for a few years.
