''Hey now!'' - the immortal, cheesy catch-phrase of Hank Kingsly from The Larry Sanders Show.

So I have just finished downloading another couple of free to play MMORPG's.  They all are basically the same, in that there is virtually no story to them, and the game involves a mind-numbing amount of hours of grinding.

Some of these games have excellent production values, as good as any pay2play, so surely there must be at least one that is not just about the grind.

I understand that the bulk of these games are Asian in origin, and that for cultural reasons, the grind is the key aspect them, but surely there is one that is more story based.

If anyone has any knowledge of where I can find such a game, I'd appreciate it.

Entropia Universe Entropia Universe

Starport: Galactic Empires Zu Online
Dungeon Runners GoonZu Online

On the P2P side, I would strongly recoomend Guild Wars as a very low grinding MMORPG with a very good storyline. Also DAOC may be something to look into as well

Hi,

Hmmm, I'm looking at your list and I have to say somethings aren't right. Like the fact you say he got to try Holic online, holic online a brainless grinding game and I think Goonzu is a typical grinding game aswell! So like the games that are on your list I would suggest Dungeon Runners and Voyage Century!

2nd Life needs... more than what it is to become a possible 'game', imho.  2nd Life is more like someone took AOL chatrooms and put skins and a virtual world around them, threw in advertisements, and a heavy dose of the SIM's.

I'm not saying that to flame 2nd Life as a product.  I'm just saying that I would never recommend 2nd Life to anyone looking for 'a game'.

I know 2nd Life has a lot of customers.  I know it has a role and it's a product that is capable of performing several functions.  I just don't see it as 'a game', really.
