After all this time, guess what sells the most in his store by nearly a 11-1 margin...

No other console game, no other MMOG... nothing can get close to it.

World of Warcraft, it's battle chest, and game time cards.  Nothing touches WoW after these years in sales at his store.  Just sick.  Not even AoC or WAR pre-orders can beat out his instore sales of WoW items.  Simply insane.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Honey, let's get our son that world of warcraft game we saw on TV - maybe he can do it while studying for school.

Account has been stolen, why would someone want to steal my account?

Hahaha that and "Mom and Dad - remember when I asked for a computer to play games on for christmas and you got me that HP Pavilion from Wal-Mart? Well, I can't really play anything with my integrated Intel video card - except for this one..." *holds up World of Warcraft  Battle Chest box.

Anyway, WoW having massive sales as indicated by the OP only shows that far more people think it's shit than like it. The box sales are probably more than double the subscription figures.

Actually, the statement is correct. WoW and Sims are probably the only two major franchises that have penetrated the 'casual' and female player market share more so than any other title at present. Or let me put it this way: ask a woman at an office building if she has played WoW or Sims (1 or 2) and I promise you half the time the answer for either (or even both) will be: yes.

My ever so rich response was to the tone of his post, you know, casualy smirking. I don't see the corelation between that and women playing.

Social networking games always has a wide variety of people, it's the action oriented ones that seem to cater to guys, but the women whom I have played against are always rather exceptional.

WoW is a major success, even now in 2008 my local Gamestop still carries the updated Strategy guide to it, the one in the white binder and all.

From what I understand there are only 2.5 million WoW players in America according to Blizzards last report. So it will probably still sell very well there, theres a lot of people that have not tried it most likely and since it is talked about a lot it stands to reason it still sells well.

In England I am pretty sure it has peaked as all the copies I have seen are in the bargain bin for 5 quid. There is 2.2 million subscribers in Europe so it is not surprising that they do not sell that well anymore most people that are interested in it have tried it and the rest are playing it.

You know what? Wow is sold here in spain, at least in my city, for around 19,90 euros. How much cost AoC? 49,90 euros, 59,90 $. I think this must have something to do with sales prices too. I have been thinking on buying it lots of times just cose its cheap.

I'll never make the arguement that WoW doesn't out sell other games. They have an awesome advertising and public relations department. They are much more visible then any other game. They attract a lot of players.

The issue is that once you get to 70 you start to realise the lack of depth in the game that you just bought. You start to realise the lack of a playing community as 25 man guilds raid the same content over and over and over again. You start to realise that the $29 you paid to get a game was simply not worth it and you stop paying the monthly fee.

When WoW gets depth and allows for various playstyles then that will be something to brag about, I don't care how many players it has and that is not something to brag about. WoW is a great dungeon crawling game and if that is what you are into then its awesome. The fact that it lacks player housing, solo hunting for valuable gear, and pug raiding/events is a huge downside. The fact that it promotes guild only play and you might know 25 people out of a server with 1000+ people is an even huger downside. Those of us that are fans of the MMORPG market and have played more than just WoW simply realise that WoW is nothing more than a gateway MMORPG. On the bright side, it has brought a lot of people into the MMORPG market that were not there before and that is worth noting.

Its so cheap because compared to other MMORPGs it has NO depth and the developers suck. The only thing they ever manage to do is add more pixelated crap (weapons, armor, items) to the RNG for people to slave away to get during new bugged raid content. They also seem to cater exclusively to a younger more hardcore crowd that is all about being 1337 and has the attitude to prove it. When you can't even play the game the way you want because trying something new offends other people then its not a game worth playing. Numbers of copies sold has nothing to do with the depth of a game...try again!

The game is sold cheap, because they no longer need to recoup development costs and they can afford to attract players at low cost.  Every copy sold is a potential subscriber which is where the real money is.

Despite the popular beliefs here, people who buy WoW tend to stick with the game as can be seen by its continually increasing subscriber numbers.  People can continue to pretend it is just kids or those who don't have a high end computer to play one of those others games that continue to decline if that is what helps people sleep.  People keep playing and likewise copies keep getting sold, because it delivers entertainment.

If the rest of the MMO market wasn't so weak in comparison then WoW wouldn't be such a run away success.

One could argue that the developers dont suck as they have been part of creating one of the best selling, and biggest in its genre, games. Insulting them doesn't alter this. I agree thats its aimed at the younger crowd, but I find it sad that you are bullied out of this game by others who dont like your gameplay.

Not sure where you got the 'depth' thing from, I could have missed its reference earlier but trying to insult someone by bringing up a point they never made is also rather sad ... in your own words ... try again

I think you went way over board here. I'm not a big WOW fan, but saying the devs suck, the game is cheap and has no depth is waaay over the top. Wow isn't a game that appeals to hard core MMORPGers, it's more of the next evolution of Diablo. That's to say it's a gmae of fast paced distruction, predicable game play, w/ some immersion/social (ie MMOLRPG) content. The game is successful (very succesful) in what it attempts to do and appeal to. Just because we don't enjoy it doesn't make it or the devs crap. WOW has introduced the MMO genre to many people who weren't (and may never be) ready for the type of game you and me are looking for.

It's not just England, It's England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland and that makes up the United Kingdom. We may not have as big populations as England but we certainly don't belong to England. And anyway the numbers are meant to be around 2 million in the USA and around 2 million in Europe, yes Europe there aren't 2.2 million WoW players in England. The population of Europe is around 700 million people and the population of the USA is around 300 million people so 4 million WoW players across the USA and Europe while big in the MMO industry is still small compared to other genres like FPS (CoD, CS, BF), RTS (WCIII, SC).

I meant to say Europe instead of 'here' in my last post, I have edited my post with the correct figures. Maybe you should calm down or something if you feel the need to jump on peoples posts like that.

edit: Btw the official figures are 2.2 million in Europe, 2 million in America, and 4.4 million in Asia according to the last population report I can find from Blizzard.

The official population figure stated by Blizzard when WoW reached 10 million subcribers were:

"World of Warcraft now hosts more than 2 million subscribers in Europe, more than 2.5 million in North America, and approximately 5.5 million in Asia."

never really understood this depth argument. I came back to wow after playing through EQ2, Vanguard, CoH, LOTRO because of the depth.

LotRO has less depth, each class has one role, that is clearly defined.
EQ2 although it has more skills, the actual mechanics for tanking and healing/threat are much more simplifies than WOWs.
CoH has very little depth past costume contests and Vanguard had cool mechanics, but no actual game. The combat was also not very complicated once you knew the 2 buttons to push.

WoW has multiple rolls for each class, a paladin can be an effective tank, but good at different aspects of tanking than a warrior, a paladin can heal, and a paladin can dps. A warrior can tank, a warrior can also dps. He can straight dps, or he can make dps that helps the rest of the raid dps better.

A priest can heal, a priest can do dps/mana healing. A druid can tank, but in a different sometimes more useful style, sometimes less useful style than a warrior or paladin, a druid can heal, or a druid can dps.

All the classes have many routes to take and they can change. In LOTRO for example, a guardian is a tank, a champion is a dps class. There isnt any cross over. There isnt times when you'd switch tank types for the encounter.

WoW has depth, people just use cliches because they think they are safe fast and easy statements about the game that people will accept without questioning, which is silly because when you actually loook at the game, WoW has more depth than almost any mmorpgs out right now.

after 6 or so years, I had to change it a little...
