I would like to petition mmorpg.com not to show any more darkfall content. At least remove it from under development. It makes a mockery of real games under development.

I think it is pretty bad for mmorpg.com to participate in the Darkfall scam and to delete critical posts. I had a few deleted or locked already. This way new readers can not see what other people think and be dragged in.

Why is people like Aragon100 allowed to post their fanboy threads for so long and we who have realized this is not a real game, can't have our say?

A game in development for so long and with so little to show for it shouldn't be taken seriously. It is clear they are playing arond with a pet project and are probably trying to rack in cash from an investor. Mmorpg.com is silently supporting this.

It is time for mmorgp.com to take a stand here. Aventurine is joke. They have never produced anything. After 7 years of development they can claim "we show what we want to show", "we decide for ourselves", "we do it in our speed", "we dont have to prove anything!" ... etc.

HOWEVER, mmorpg.com has the right to not buy into this regimen of thinking.. In fact I think this site has a responsibility to not support things like this.

It would really be nice if they took a stand and stopped allowing Aventurine to exploit other people and mmo players specifically!

What Darkfall does is dealing low blows at real games like AoC it is not helping the industry.

Someone should compile all the promises they make; try before you buy, open unlimited world, full pvp ffa, great graphics, etc etc. They have promised so much it is unreal. What they do is that they play on all the things that a lot of this community is dreaming of. A real sandbox mmo.

It is highly manipulative. And the company has nothing to show for it, that couldn't have been created by a schoolkid in a cellar. I have friends who are into 3d and who could do similar stuff on their iMac minis. There are free 3d engines you can download and make similar stuff with.

There has to be some bar, some sort of quality control. Now even more fake games seems to be arising. So it is time for you to remove it from mmorpg.com until the development is taking a turn for the real. And I think we all know deep down, even the hopeful fanboys, that this will never happen.

Who are you to say that this game does not have the right to be listed ?

Who are you to decide that any game that is over X years of development is a scam ?

Why don't you support more the smaller developers ? It is expected for a multi-million-dollars funded company with 10-50M$ of budget to take 4 years to develop their MMO ( and even then, many would say that it lacks polish / interest ), with the help of  hundreds developers. But when a small company that has 1/20th of their resources / manpower takes 7 years, it has to be a scam ? Don't be surprised if one day, you wake up in a world where independent developers no longer exist and all you have is fast-food MMOs. You'll be responsible for it.

That you have your doubts in their abilities to finish the game; or that you lost interest, I can understand.

That you actively go on a cruisade against them, I cannot. Especially as they never scammed you or anybody, so it's just conspiracy theory at that time.

And as far as I know, there isn't a rule where a game needs a working client to be listed as "under development".  While your enthusiasm to maintain some level of quality in the mmo community is appreciated, I really don't feel trolling on this game based on the reasons you have given accomplish that.

I want to put a Petition together to get useless Post like this removed as well as the poster from mmorpg.com as these are a waste of bandwith and a big waste of ppl's time.

LOL this game as bad a rep as it has, has every right to be on here just like any other game in development ok so it is long overdue or is it? Maybe they are trying to do what every 1 is asking for and that is to produce something unique? but hey it seems the harder and longer ppl try to produce good games the more they are flamed i say for all those naysayers out there get of ya high horse and give it a rest they are obviously producing something that people like and if it has nothing that you like in it why does it bother you if it releases or not you obviously wont play it anyway.

I am a fan of darkfall.. at least to some extent. But even more i am a supporter of independent game developers, because i wholehearted believe that real innovation can just come from enthusiasts, from independent devs, which have not to follow the mainstream and are not dictated by the big money.

And with your demand just the big companies would be listed at mmorpg,com, because in all honestly, independent teams can not show a lot, and even more, the most of them are in demand to get some investors, and can only get them with a little bit of publicity they can get here at mmorpg.com. You demand(and i can understand it to some extent, because i am also burned out of following games years before they are anywhere near release) would mean, that mmorpg.com could only report about games, which are almost finished(with other words within almost finished beta), because before that time noone can show much more than a few screens, concept and the like. And only the big companies are able to put a lot of money in advertising(cinematic trailers, demoable prototypes, conventions and the like), and all the independent teams would lose the ability to find interest in their concept, and to find some potential investors to realize those concepts finally.

Because in all honestly, you can not start to develop and even more finish the development of a mmorpg without investors you pick up at the way of developing your game. This on the other side is the reasons why a lot of indy projects get canceled during this process, because they are not able to pick up enough investors, and yes in some way we as possible customers and follower of such projects are often than not the ones to suffer. We have to wait for years and in the end get nothing in a lot of circumstances. MMORPGs are nowadays multimillion dollar projects, and take a lot of time, resources and money to be finished, and a lot of them fail and get canceled during those process. But this is the price, which have to be paid for the standards(graphic, size of world, amount of content and overall quality) we are used to. The times of simple muds or simple games, which can be developed from a few committed guys in their garage with little to no money are over, and will never come back.

Nowadays it is a lot harder to become a new Richard Garriot making a game called Akalabeth and become succesful and get the chance to make more and better games with a lot more funding. And sites like mmorpg.com are the plattforms, where new startups and indepentent developers can get enough publicity to make a game and get some potential investors and the money they need to realize it.. they can not make a game with no money nowadays, they have to start with multimillion dollar game.

But on the other side, i guess all those text was just a waste of time, because everyone knows this, and the OP is just another troll to discredit a game and get some attention for whatever reason.

But the point is you cant, they have never asked about money, and the actually develop a mmorpg, if it is any good, or if it will have all announced features is a completely other question, but is is no scam, not like Mourning/Thrones of Chaos.. which was removed from mmorpg.com.. and that with a very good reason.

I can see both sides of the arguement and there both valid, thats why this situation is a difficult one to deal with, and thats probably why Darkfall is still listed on the site....indecision.

In saying that, I dont really think having Darkfall listed is gonna have a negative impact on the industry, MMORPG.com, or the reputation of MMO games in general.

If it fails to see sunlight, itll just be another piece of  vaporware that failed to live up to its promise, comes with the territory...

If they remove darkfall then they have to remove Atriarch,   I signed up for the Atriarch Beta in 2002.

I hope they don't remove it. I like reading the forums there and I hope that their game comes out, someday. It's like watching someone root for the worst team in sports history year, after year, after year. In a way you want to make fun, but then there is a large part of you that would also like to see them win in the end...just one, for the "Gipper"!

My beef with Darkfall is the blatant lies Adventurine has fed us over the past 7 years regarding their 'game'.  Promises on top of promises, yet in the end nothing delivered.  If they simply said "We're very limited on funds so this may take a while, but we'll keep you posted on what we're doing so far." i would understand, but instead we're fed crap like "We could have open beta tomorrow if we wanted to."  Also, the fact that they're keeping everything so hush-hush is in itself pretty suspicious.  Which brings me to my second point . . .

They're obviously not interested in trying to find serious financial support for their 'game'.  If they were, they would be a bit more open about what they're trying to accomplish with this, maybe at least try to garner some publicity in the hopes of attracting a financier.  But no, instead they lurk in the shadows throwing out occasional redundant tidbits every now and then in order to pacify the masses?  Let a small handful of obscure people see their work, but not allow a well known and reputable establishment (Gamespot, PC Gamer, etc) have a peek?  Sorry, but it just doesn't add up.

People who want to believe in this 'game' will convince themselves of it's veracity despite any and all evidence to the contrary.  And though i too would like to see it release, i'm a bit more objective.  Given all the information about this 'game' (or lack of information, as is more often the case) over the years, i can only conclude that Darkfall is a farce.  Quite franky i'm surprised it still has as much of a following as it does.  But hey, there's a sucker born every minute . . .

Someone from this site already responded to a post like this before. Can't find the thread but it was something like ' Until such time as Aventurine announces that Darkfall has been canceled we will continue to host the forum'

Besides with the amount of rabid fanboys you get for that game if you were to remove that forum they would just constantly post in general instead.

Edit: Btw I did not think the game was vapourware before their last couple of development journals, I just thought the game would come out at some point be a complete failure then vanish or very optimistically be half of what they have promised on release. Their last journal in particular though just screams bullshit, so I have no faith the game will ever come out in a playable state, with any of the features they claim.

For instance the bit where he says our games servers support all operating systems, I am no expert but I am pretty sure that is impossible. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

The bit that sounds very unlikely though is where he says they are using bots so complex they are helping them test the game as if players were there.

But if you'll notice mmorpg.com doesn't really support the game.. They have not posted a news item about it since june of last year.  The only place you will find any actual news being posted about it is at Warcry once every 2-3 weeks...  and even that barely qualifies as news...

That game wasn't a scam.. some people just never got their CD's or something like that than went all buck wild crying scam...   they had servers up and you were able to login.. I know of at least 1 big guild who's members were in it playing before..    First Mechanized Infantry.

It would be very unproffesional of mmorpg.com to remove Darkfall from the list.

No, I don't think this game is going to make it either but does anyone have truly solid evidence that this game is canceled? No, nobody does.

Adventurine has not scammed anyone or anything. this is not a Mourning/Realms of Krel.

What difference does it matter if DF is here.  I love writing and arguing about DF.  I really don't care to read anything you post though, how about you leave the forums, and make me happy.

DF is a game under development until someone proves otherwise.  So far they keep posting screenshots from within the game, deliver an occasional video, (OK, very occasional) and post regular development updates on other major websites.

Till that comes to a halt you can't say DF doesn't deserve to be here.  Its as real as Fallen Earth or Huxley in my eyes (cause I doubt those games will ever deliver either) but I'm not going to clamor to have them removed from the website.
