I know this idea has been tossed around in the past, but I have just recently started playing Pokémon on my GBA again and can't help but think of how great a Pokémon MMORPG could be.. It has sparked my curiosity.

Before you flame the idea about it being a kiddie game (it very well may be), ask yourself if you've given it a chance... I've known a lot of Pokémon haters who haven't even tried it.. But it's an undeniably fun game, for me.

A lot of elements of the game seem that they would fit perfectly into an MMORPG world...

Collecting a team of versatile Pokémon across the world, each with their own customizable choices of skills through advancement and evolution, would bring about a quite unique and effective approach to differentiating players from each other. Hunting for specific and rare Pokémon, as well as fulfilling objectives and obtaining items for their skill advancement and evolution would leave a lot of content PvE-wise.. Making your own perfect team of evolved Pokémon could potentially be a long, arduous, but fun and rewarding task.

A crafting system of sorts could be accomplished through berries. If you're familiar with Pokémon, you know what I'm talking about... All the different types of berries, mulches, planting and mixing berries; it could give way to quite a complex and useful system.

PvP could be loads of fun, balanced on the pre-existing rock-paper-scissors-esque branch of elements Pokémon already has, as well as the players' unique teams of Pokémon.

I'm not sure how they ought to make combat... Try a new unique turn based (classic RPG) system?? Or everyone plays as a typical summoner class...

I'm curious.. How come they haven't done it, yet?

I think it could be a completely awesome game...

why do humans build, because it isn''t there

I'd laugh and wish I was a couple handful of years younger so I could put up with the community and it's targeting to the 'kid' demographic.

I suppose the kid demographic may be true... But don't tell me it could be much worse than World of Warcraft.

I'm 23, which I think may be over the cusp of the average gamers age (or Pokémon gamers age), but I'm mature enough to ignore any 'conflict' they may bring...

I just enjoy the game itself.

I'd have to admit the elements of a pokemon mmorpg could be great if done right.  But my biggest issue would be the target the game is set for.   So I doubt it would ever be that good for that reason,  as it would be more dumbed down and as simply as could be and still draw a crowd for abit.

I would play it. I mean, it wouldn't be a huge leap from the current games, really. They could drop in the four current regions, flesh them out a bit, and use the current mechanics of the game. I can't see much that would need changing, really.

As for the "I'm too old" comments: Grow up. The Pokemon games have always been as deep as you made them. It was easy to go through the game without understanding a single underlying mechanic besides which type beat what other type. However, there are a multitude of underlying mechanics at work that one must account for in battles against real people. There is also a great deal of strategy involved when putting together not only your line-up, but their moves and how you segue between Pokemon.

I know I probably lost a lot of Cool Points by defending Pokemon as a game that isn't just for kids, but it really isn't. A lot of people, such as myself, played Pokemon in it's heyday and still do. It's just our reasons for playing grew up over the years. Instead of playing because we want to catch Pokemon that look cool or are cute or are hard to get, we play to match wits against other people in a fairly strategic game.

I think the community would definitely be predominantly younger, but I could easily see a reasonably sized community of people older than what Nintendo necessarily targets.

Definitely. If it was done with a tactic approach (think Guild Wars) I'd buy it and would probably be stuck playing it for a very long time. I've played 2-3 Pokémon games and I love them all; and I've many times dreamed about a Pokémon MMO. I would prefer if they didn't aim at small kiddies though, since the franchise may be "kiddish" but the game still can be made very mature.
