. . . that the promised 'Open Beta' was never delivered? Promised to shutup the critics, and give ammo to the Fan-Boyz. Since AoC has now gone to the manufacturers, what will be provided now is a semi-open Trial. If this is how Funcom views its customer base, then heaven help the early subscribers to this game. Smells a lot like Anarchy Online, and even a bit like V:SoH to me. But, time will tell. Certainly not going to pony up the amount of money they want for the Client before I hear the reviews and opinions of the good folks here at MMORPG as to what state AoC is really in at launch. I think it is 'Buyer Beware' on this one. |

Heh I'm still having plenty of fun with Savage 2. I'll give it a few months after release to see how it's shaping up. If it's good I'll buy in. If not well life goes on. |

AoC will have ab Open Beta. It starts 1st of May. Just you need to be a fileplanet member to join. It's true, they are making money with the open beta, yeah, they are. But Funcom is a bussines, not a charity organization. I hope to be there -=AlaKraM=- |

Actually, I believe they are considering the May 1 open beta primarily a load test. They'll get a better idea on what the servers can handle and what the interest level is to make a more informed decision on how many servers to have available at launch.
That said, I have no doubt that they'll still take feedback and incorporate any last minute changes into that ginormous patch you always have to do after you install a game from the CD. |

did they ever give the contest winners their beta access? or is that going to be handed out on may 1st when everyone can get into the beta? and as far as the game build on release, I think the only system being left out of the release is bar fights, my friend mentioned something about bar fights needing a couple more months or work before they patch it into the game after release. Either way, there is no telling what path this game will take on release. It could go the way of the gods, uo, eq1, wow, or it could go the way of the cursed, vg, eq2, potbs. I'll be logged in on may 20th assuming I get my pre-order copy. I'm sure you'll get a ton of information about the game by the 20th. Power and money, money and power mean nothing. Good always triumphs over evil. Love, True Love Never Dies." |

Yes there is an open beta but not truly open. YOU HAVE TO PAY FILEPLANET TO GET INTO THE OPEN BETA. IF THATS NOT ENOUGH YOU CAN ONLY PLAY TO LVL 13 OUT OF 80 LEVELS!!! I dont know about you guys but I sure as hell aint paying fileplanet almost 9 bucks to play a buggy open beta to only lvl 13. /end rant |

Open bets has however nothing to do with how many ppl gets in, open beta can have 1 ppl. The "open" part in open beta is refering to no NDA, FYI |

Well OP your post history shows you already discussed in this a similar thread and decided to make another one. Trying to do a bit of viral bashing here are we? Good job. Lets keep it short and sweet then. You dont like the way they are doing open beta. Then wait it out. The game is not a race you wont lose anything waiting for one of 350k buddy keys that will be floating around, or wait for the trial or possibly wait for another preview weekend. Good for you dont spend any money whatsoever on this product till you have tried it out. Good day. Open Beta = Test - not some F2P type open beta. Want the priviledge to test, its being host thru fileplanet where you can spend under $8 to do so. OR if your ISP is COMCAST you can get membership free.
Warhammer Online will be going thru IGN fileplanet too. This is nothing new.

Also, seems quite funny that the PVP Beta weekend was a huge success from just about every single poster here on these forums. Also, don't fault Funcom for something that is Fileplanet's doing, ie charging people to get access to the open beta. Fileplanet has done this for ages with just about every single game that they have hosted for downloads. Companies go to them for betas because they have so much experience with the hosting of these huge files. Not that they are what the companies want to use, but they have little choices at a time when they are trying to finish up production of their games.
They go with places like Fileplanet out of necessity, not because they necessarily want to do so. |

I was lucky enough to have a very small experience of the game for the PvP beta weekend. While it was not something that left me in awe, I am willing to wait for some feedback from persons on MMORPG who purchase the game and will make my decisions then in regards to the game. I just have to filter through the bs in the threads.
For me after the last two releases I bought...and subsequently tossed into the trash heap (POTBS and Tabula Rasa) , I am not rushing into any more purchases when it comes to a new game.
Good luck to AoC though. I hope it is a good or at least decent game. From what I saw in a VERY limited preview it was ok...nothing great.
