Hi just need some advise on which ram I should get.  I'm in the process of getting the ultimate windows vista  home.

Running a pentium (R) CPU 3.40GHz

760 gts 8800 video card

3 gigs of 4200 kingston ram I know it's crap lol.  Looking to upgrade when I get my rebate check, hoping the 6400 ram would work any ideas?

Main thing to make sure of is that your motherboard will support the 6400 ram

ms-7241 main board   series msi motherboard.

found some info memory support ddr2 800/677/533 sdram 4ddr2 dimms

I ordered kingston memory speed 800 mhz pc2 6400  dimm 240 ping ddr2 ram

so should work right? and if i'm understanding this right the 800mpz is the highest i can go.

From the msi comp (Motherboard make) index base page if you search for the G965m it will give you a couple variations to select which will then give you a brief breakdown.  Each of the G965m variations (which are all the ms-7241 models) support DDR2-800 speed ram, and do support the kingston brand.  That help set your mind at ease?

You can also go to the Kingston site and look up the 6400 model to verify it's speed/type (Which I believe is the DDR2 800, but you can check it yourself should you care to)

Doubt is a pain too lonely to know that faith is his brother.

Yes it will work with that motherboard !

There was an MSI-7241 -04 and -05 revision both support 800mhz.

RIP Laura - We shall not forget you.

MSI G965M-F MS-7241

It supports up to PC6400 Memory, so it will work.  The thing to look at is the timing on the memory.  Most Kingston memory is CAS Latency 5/6 which is high. But it really won't affect much as long as your not overclocking.

However, with your PC.  The thing slowing you down the most wasn't your memory but your processor.  Pentiums are the slowest processor still on the market.  It is possible for you to upgrade to a Core2 processor which will be much faster.  However, which one to get depends on your budget.

Something like the E4700 will run well on your motherboard  It looks to only have access to an 1066 Mhz FSB which kinda limits your choices on processors.
