If I buy a copy of the game and make a new account, can I participate in the arena tourney? In the FAQ it says you must have paid time, not a trial account, but I figured this was just for res scrolls and guest passes.

So, if I make a new account, with the free 14 days or whatever that comes with a new copy of the game, will I be able to register for the tourney?

Thanks in advance.

I would think so. You'll also need the expansion and a $20 entry fee. From the official rules:

To participate, you must:

  • Have an active subscription to World of Warcraft with an account in good standing, meaning the account is not flagged, suspended, or banned for violating any of the Terms of Service, EULA, or other rules of World of Warcraft.
  • Have World of Warcraft and World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade installed.
  • Have a World of Warcraft account that has been upgraded to The Burning Crusade.
  • Be the authorized account holder of the Account. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who registered the Account.
  • Have a valid credit card to pay the per-competitor registration fee for the tournament, which is €15/£12 in Europe; 20,000 won in South Korea; $20 in North America; and NT$450 in the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau for each six-week qualification round that the competitor participates in.
  • Reside in a country or territory that allows participation (you will see the full list when registering).
  • Complete the required information on the registration page to register for the tournament.
  • Meet all eligibility requirements listed in the rules. Players meeting these requirements will be allowed to participate in the tournament and will have access to the dedicated tournament realms in their region.

I already know all about the registration fee and etc.

My question was, though, is what exactly is considered a regular member account? Obviously an account activated with a resurrection scroll or a trial account are not eligible, but what about a newly created account?

Is there a way to buy the game and NOT get a free trial period? :P

when u buy the retail game, you get 30 days of paid time free. thats not a trial account is a perfectly active account. If u use a 14 day trial u ned to upgrade first.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but wouldn't this be a question better aimed at Blizzard itself as any comments you get on here will be pure speculation too i guess.

I am 'guessing' that as long as you have a paid up account you can enter, but again, it all comes down to how Blizzard interpret their own rules.

I know exactly what you mean Jason, but keep in mind this IS Sunday, and it IS Blizzard support. While they're pretty decent as far as MMO support goes, they're still MMO support. They won't answer as fast as random posters on a forum. I was hoping somebody here would know for a fact.

That being said... yes, I have already contacted support about this issue, but obviously they haven't gotten back to me yet. :)

I dont need to
"get a life".
Im a gamer, I have
LOTS of LIVES!

The question I have to ask is why would you want to do this?  Unless you have been playing for awhile, I got to believe there's very little chance of you actually getting on a team and participating in the tourney.  And if you have been playing for awhile, then why not use that account, unless it's been banned recently.  I guess you could just want to get an account so you could try out all that fancy hardware and run around an BG's an know that equipment is not a factor.  But is it really worth paying the for the game and the expansion and the entry fee for that?  Maybe it is. :)
