"We''re not making a game for Trekkies" Daron Stinnett, Perpetual Entertainment

Let's do some math so people can see why some of us take issue with Fileplanet's deal with Funcom.  Funcom gives fileplanet 50,000 keys.  Funcom has 350,000 signed up beta testers still waiting their chance.  Fileplanet gets a lot of track regardless of AoC or not.

50,000 on a first come, first serve basis.

$8 subscription fee is minimum these people have to pay for a shot if they dig deep enough for that deal

200,000 people sign up and pay $8 for a shot of a beta key.

100,000 people sign up and pay $15 because they didn't dig for the $8 deal

$1,500,000 + $1,600,000 = $3,100,000

Bandwidth cost to upload 50,000 open beta clients = $3.05 per person $152,500

Yes, I'd say it is fairly obvious the AoC fans are getting screwed over royally by Fileplanet and this open beta.  They'll make millions off something that will cost them $152,500 at the most upload costs because they already have their own hardware and would be replacing/using it regardless if they had the AoC open beta or not.

Let say they get 50,000 people that do the $8 deal... bare minimum will be a $400,000 haul for fileplanet.  My guess it will be a lot higher than that just because of it being AoC and the amount of fans still waiting their shot from the official forums.

yep, the question is, how much will this stunt actually cost them,  It could cost them anywhere from $32 to over $400 from me, hope their kick back was worth it.

It's actually the events, betas, and stress tests that are a disaster.  Other than having a large amount of pre order choices the actual launch is still yet to be seen or judged.  This is all pre-launch events.

No ones forcing anyone to sign up with fileplanet, only one that is forcing someone is oneself for the chance to be in the beta.  so IMO you'd be screwing yourself.

it's like the lottery mail scams that are popular now a days, no one is forcing you to send a check to these people in the hopes of receiving a so called lottery amount back. yes they are scamming, but by sending that check to them you are screwing yourself by your stupidity

EIDOS, you have single handedly set up Funcom's AoC to be one of the worst launches ever in regards to AAA MMORPGs.

You have 17 different pre-order offers out there that we know of with Funcom's forum mods deleting/consolidating "help me" posts faster than Roger Clemens denying steroid allegations.

Not an issue for me; spoke with Gamestop and they said they will have the early access stuff/codes sometime around May 1.

You have 2 different beta events being advertised at the same time and people don't know where to turn for help because Gamespot is a joke with very poor customer support.

I had no issue with Gamspot at all and actually their forums provided me with all the help I needed.

You have no less than seven department store chains pointing their fingers back to EIDOS/Funcom because they have no clue what is going on with all the different offers.

See above.

You have the Gamespot garbage going on and people have to torrent for the PvP weekend event and needing 12+ hours to download and patch.

12 hours? Wow, thats sad. I had no issues with the downloader and it worked just as well as any other for me.

You have the official wording on Funcom's website saying you have to a member of Fileplanet to sign up for the May 1st Open beta, yet when follow the link to the Fileplanet website the word switches from member to subscriber.  If a fine print sticky you've a Funcom dev admitting that yes you have to pay Funcom if you want a CHANCE at getting an open beta key.

Wrong; you have to pay Fileplanet and not Funcom. See the Director's letter posted elsewhere. Moving that huge of a file(s) costs money. After all, open beta is a privledge and not a requirement; want to pay money for it, fine; you don't fine, but please stop the whining.

And above all, you have successfully done something I never thought I would say.  You have made Sony's Platform Publishing look professional compared to the diasaster you got going on with this launch.  The sad part is, it is AoC that will pay the price because after launch, you'll be off to the next game.  Funcom will be the ones to lose money off this disaster, not you.

Um, not sure about this since 99% of the crap you mention relates to now and not launch.

Good job, EIDOS!  Well done!

Thank you, Templarga, you are correct.  Sorry for the mistype.  I've corrected it.  You have to pay FILEPLANET for a CHANCE at an open beta key.  As far as the rest of your posts.  I'm glad your experiences with gamespot were so wonderful.  For other people, just look at different forums, the pvp beta weekend is going horrible.  Again, happy YOUR experiences are going good for you.

Oh, and for the record, I consider closed beta testing for a year or more with companies a lot more of a privilege than open beta.  If Funcom can have thousands of people being beta testers for them for months on in without charging them for downloading data in closed beta, why start charging now?

If you are too broke to pay $2.99 for a beta, then find a job.

Thats the problem...nobody should have to pay jack to test a game!  There are tons of other sites you can use that don't require a paid sub to access High Speed DLs.  Heck even 'surprise' 'surprise' Fileplanet can use the non-sub DLs which is still pretty damn fast!

get a job, easy as that. thats pocket change unless ur like 13 years old, even then you shouldnt be playing this game.

if you are an adult and you cant handle that then you have other issues than this game

Still don't get the point!  You don't charge ppl to test a game thats absurd, unless ur game sucks and your running out of money and need more!  Oh wait yeah Vanguard did that too...."We're out of money lets release early and cash in on the 220,000 purchases and then fix the game with that money and screw over our customers!"

when are you going to understand, that you are not paying funcom anything?  Funcom will not see a dime of that money.  You are paying fileplanet for the service of downloading the client, you are not paying to play but paying for the bandwidth cost for the download.  F

How much do you think Fileplanet payed Funcom to be the online gaming site that offers the client? Fileplanet stands a good chance of making a lot of money by people subscribing to get a chance to get in, think funcom will allow them to make that money without paying them something?

Think before you post..
