Open beta for 13 lvls....  What is the purpose of this beta ?  

I played WoW up to lvl 50 in open beta.  I bought the game right away cause I couldn't wait to make my charcter and go through it again. 

So AOC with 80 lvls doesn't yet have content to allow open beta testers to play up to more than lvl 13 ?  Does the game even have player made cities yet ?  Or siege warfare?  Or even working mounts ?  

Seriously - first lift of NDA and ppl can play 13 lvls... 

One word of advise.  Stay away.  Stay far away until we actually get any real reporst on whats going on.  It can't be good if devs consider open beta to be 13 lvls of gameplay.

the whole things reeks of the Shadowlands expansion for AO.

They hadn't FINISHED the last three zones of the world, yet. They intentionally broke the quests to give access to those areas, while scrambling to finish them up, claiming that the quests were "bugged", or that the items required were rare drops.

It took them over a year to actually finish it.

It's really just a stress test.

I'm not a fanboi or anything but hell! Because a company doesn't let you have free peak at all of their game doesn't mean that it's not ready.

GIve them a chance to succeed or fail. I don't think that we will see another Vanguard release. Or an AO release. But we all know that ALL releases have their bumps. There has never been a perfect one. The closest I can think of was with LOTRO. And they still hit roadbumps.

Actually, there is a partial NDA lift. Starting at 3 PM EST tomorrow, beta testers in the pvp weekend are allowed to discuss their experiences (but with the caveat they can't discuss any experiences prior to that time).

This means you'll get public info about how smooth the game runs in the pvp environments, basic class info for level 20 characters, etc. The floodgates will open and people will talk about everything they can. It's basically 48 hours worth of gameplay the beta testers will be able to discuss, which is enough.

Unfortunately, the NDA is still up for closed beta and tech beta testers, but they may discuss pvp weekend if they are engaged in that as well.

I also hear that once you hit level 13 you have to completly stop playing the game as once you hit a level cap the game ends.

Also they have changed the enviornment so that all around Hybornia the sky will actually be falling.

Why put yourself out there just to try and hurt the game?  If what you say is true people will realize it, and if it is wrong you are just making a fool out of yourself.  The NDA will be lifted, and data will come out.  Your type of mentality is what's wrong with the World today.

Were all of your other troll posts in other games not enough to satisfy your anger towards whatever you are pissed at?  Was your completely baseless thread accusing AoC of being the biggest flop ever not enough?

yep. Open Beta is supposed to be testers volunteering to help the company stress test the game, and find last minute bugs. The testers are helping the game company in question. They NEED the testers to get the job done.

All it takes is 2-5,000 players to fill up a server.  Believe me they have been stress testing, and they will be this weekend.  They aren't asking you to pay to help them.  They are asking Fileplanet to host an Open Beta to allow you to play if you want, and they are not paying for it out of their own pockets.  Thus Fileplanet is collecting the money for it. 

The only thing that is really being tested in open beta 2 weeks before release is the stress on the servers.

What you see is what you get and yes I absolutely do use open beta as sort of a free trial. I'm helping them test there server capacity and testing out the geame at the same time to see if it runs well on my machine and if the game fits my playstyle. I'm not going to throw a fit if the ping is high or the servers crash since that's pretty much the point of the beta but if the game runs like a photobucket slide show or just plays in a way I don't like then I'll find out in beta before i waste 50 bucks.

If I have a great game I would want to expose as many people to it as I can to draw in as many customers as I can. If they try and get as many people involved and as much info out as possible that's a good sign. If they try to limit info and exposure then that's a bad sign that they are tying to sell the game on hype rather than substance. Hopefully the next few weeks trend tward getting more exposure and info out to potential customers.

purpose is they want to stress test the servers where most of the stress will be on release day, and that will be the very early levels, see link for answer

Crap Shadowlands will go down on my list as possible the worst expansion to a game ever.  That expansion alone killed Anarchy Online for me and many others.. What was a PVP dream game for me turned into a barren waste as everyone that I used to PVP agianst or knew left shortly after that crap expansion hit.

Damn....

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Turbine with Lord of the Rings Online capped everyone at 15 during Open Beta?

Open betas are not about testing or helping improve the product.  Open betas are marketing and a form of stress test.  Companies use open betas to expose people to their product in hopes they buy it not to test the game.  It is quite telling that Funcom is only letting people play a few hours of gameplay to level 13.  It leaves people with the question of why will they not let people pay past level 13.  What are they afraid of?  Is the content past level 13 that unfinished?  Is the gameplay that poor that people will get bored after a few hours?  Is combat lacking such depth and fun that overexposure will cause people to lose excitement?  Do they feel the immature kiddie demographic who they are targeting this game does have the attention span to keep interested after a few hours of gameplay?  Do they feel level 1-13 experience is so great that exposing new people to that portion of the game will be enough to send them running to the stores?  It certainly raises some doubts that they will be pushing out an inferior and unfinished product while attempting to hide how bad the game truly is.

You guys do know that you aren't forced to stay in the newbie area right?   You can stay there till 20, but you can leave it early if you wish.  Just because your level is capped at 13 doesn't mean you are incapable of seeing other places.

Funcom wants a signifigant presence to push hard on servers.They are hoping 13 levels gets you to show up.This will not reveal much gameplay other than graphics...how to  fight.PVE is a small part of the game and GVG and battlekeep warfare is why many will pve in AOC.The 50k players is to stress test for FUNCOM servers....a side benefit is a brief glimpse of the game for some potential subscribers. Like it...don't like it.Thats what there is.

I signed up but given not being selected  as a 21/2 year AOC forum vet...the 15 k pvp group..the prayer to the gods group...i'm not optomistic on getting in.Thirteen levels wouldn't give me enought information to decide.I'll be visiting this and other sites...to get a sense of the game.
