Well I do not hope it comes down to that or no one will invest in game production any more. So far the pre-order suggest that despite the skeptism of many, there are still hordes of people flocking in to pay for the first bite. If you intend to wait and see, you will soon have lots of report to read, and lots of information to help you make up your mind one way or another. |

theres sevral upcoming mmos this year im looking forward to trying none i would pay for until after a trial though. getting into betas is alot of bother getting into and then you get a buggy game... trials much better in my opinion, i can see the use of having betas though i just dont have the energy puting work into getting into them. trial acconts do have a negative side, wont go into speciks but i assume all who played online games wich have trial acconts have experinces negative aspects of it also. with this taken into consideration im still not paying for a unknown product i want trials. dont have a issue with trials either they have it or i dont play it on this issue i have all the power hence no problem. alot more games abound then i got time (and yes i dont have a life so i do play alot) i find that sevral games wich are big popular top tier mmos are relly bad games... well atlest i personally find them relly bad cant speak for the hundred k - millions playing them ofcourse, and in these i just needed 1 week to find out this is not a game a want to play not even if it were F2P. |

If you do not like Funcom what do you expect from a trial? You should not be the least disturbed about Funcom not offering free trials during launch. |

Why So Serious? |
I fail to see what the point of these constant whine threads are for....I mean all MMO's after so many months offer a free trial. Totally offing a game for not letting you have a sneak peek or they didn't let you into beta to TEST thats right TEST a version (not even the final one!) of their game is ludacris. If you felt cheated by Vanguard or Tabula Rasa than you must of been blind, deaf, and dumb considering the rampant bad press the game got during & after beta. If you have to have a free trial then give a game a few months to recoop from launch and play the offered free trial that they all come out with. |

One thing I haven't seen anyone bring up is if you want these companies to have a wide-open beta, i.e. anyone who wants in can get in, or a trial at launch, how much access do you want? How long of a trial is good enough? How much content should you be allowed to see? Should it be like a game demo where you get a level or two, which would be the equivelent of somewhere in the level 10-15 range for most mmos or do you demand that you have access to everything with no limits for a certain amount of time? Since the most common argument seems to be those concerning console game demos and single player PC game demos the solution would make sense to have the mmo equivelent of being restricted to level 10-15, but I can also see, and have seen people throw a fit that they don't have access to the whole game. People seem to want what very few industries anywhere offer, unrestricted access to the content of a game for a period of 7-14 days immediately uppon release or immediately prior to release, and for this to be available to anyone who wants it. I use the 7-14 days because I still remember the fit throwing the TR started it's 3 day trial. No other segment of the gaming industry is expected to do this, yet they typically cost as much as an MMO upon launch, so why should MMOs give something that no other segment of their industry (PC gaming) does? I'm not saying that they shouldn't do some kind of trial, but I don't think it has to be immediately upon release, or that everyone should get into a beta, because it is testing, and why should someone who wants to try before they buy be including in testing? Trials are nice, but they are not a right, just as our money isn't the comany's right to have, both sides make decisions about how they are going to interact with each other and both sides have to deal with the consequences both good and bad. |
