When you think how bad SOE is, and how much people hate SOE.....

It's kind of a perspective check when you find out that SOE is the best thing that ever happened to MXO. It's so bad it makes SOE look like comparative MMO gods.

It occours to me that another reason no one plays this game is because no one likes goths. They are immensely boring people.

If you are a goth, come on down and role play.

I'd come back if they fixed the Nvidia 8800 issues.

had forgotten what it was about this game that turned me off when it frst came out. I recently tried the trial to remind myself but just cant muster the interest to log in. Ive only made it to level 7 so obviously i havent delved into it far.

It reminds me of CoH/V with groups of "gangs" standing around to be killed and instanced missions to do. Ive heard that its main draw is the story but was wondering if the gameplay is the same later in the game as in the beginning. Im not trying to slam the game just wondering if im missing something or its just not my cup of tea.

It's hard for me to put into words why I don't play.

I guess It just doesnt feel (to me) like how I would think being in The Matrix would feel.

1.First, the game world is really small (smaller than most major cities), and it hasnt changed since launch. Megacity is supposed to be larger than any city currently on earth, and the game world was described (before launch) as being MUCH larger than what it turned out to be.

2. It feels to post-apocalyptic and dingy. Yeah, I understand that all parts of the city are not going to be bright and shiny, but the majority of the city in MxO is dark and dreary.

3. There arent enough bluepills walking around to make it feel like a bustling city. I know that there were more people being 'freed' towards the end of the movie trilogy, but the streets are practically devoid of any thing other than other players and "gangs" (which also dont fit into the world very well). Yes, you can adjust the client-side settings to show more people, but even at the highest setting, the city isnt realistically populated.

4. This ties in with 3, but it's the number of red pills running around. You walk into areas where players congregate, and you see tens of people kung-fooing and shooting each other and casting spells(...i mean hacking....) all without raising the slightest suspicion of bluepills or authority figures (police or agents). It really ruins my suspension of disbeleif. One of the things that made the Matrix cool for me was that it was this battle that was raging out of sight/mind of people who werent 'free'. If you play, try walking around as if you were a bluepill. Hard to ignore people jumping onto buildings and doing kung-foo everywhere, huh?

If the game were more instanced like Guild Wars, I think it could maintain the 'covert war' feel that the movies had. Logging into the game and seeing a bustling metropolis, where you and your team are the only operatives in sight would add to the feeling that you are really 'In the Matrix'. Take out the "gang" grinding,  add more variance in missions, and make the rewards for completing missions greater. Basically, the game should be more like GuildWars, and less like EverQuest. The former lends better to linear, paced storytelling than the latter.

Just my 2 cents

It had 2 things going against it. It had to be released fairly close to the last Matrix movie to still have the hype up, but by doing so it was full of bugs. = It got bad reviews and a bad reputation.

When the game was patched up enough to run smoothly even more of the hype was gone and people still remember the bad reviews.

As it is now it needs well advirticed 2 weeks Trial period just like CCP are doing with EvE online to get rid of the bad press and be more well known.

im playing the trial right now, and from the first look i found the game to be pretty decent, but the missions are pretty much the same (and boring lol) and eventually i was getting tired of it pretty fast, but in my last playsession i discovered how to get new skills and im doing the collectible quests which are a nice addition to the normal missions, i pretty much enjoy the game now :D hyperjump beta rocks hehe ^^

the only big letdown was the complete absence of players, even with the server being at medium load i played 2 hours and didnt see a single other player o_0 i guess most ppl who play are diehard vets all with lvl 50 toons

anyway.. ill try it out some more, i really really hope i come across more ppl at a higher lvl..

I dont play the game for one simple reason...

The combat just plain stinks.

I played it at launch and combat stunk.

I came back and played it after SOE's revamp, the combat still stunk.

I waited another year and again came back to see if combat was better. It wasnt.

As much as I love the idea of being inside the Matrix, I cant bring myself to play the craptacular combat system
