All right since I saw another poll below about ratio: girls and guys players, it opened an idea for me see if girls can become attracted to online player and eventually fall in love, since I saw plenty of girls playing. So it's up to you girls (based on your experience) to share your thoughts about this. The poll purpose is not to find out if relationships can begin from MMORPG, but to find out how many girls believe and are optimistic about it. I've met and known girls and guys who've even got married after getting to know each through a MMORPG. So guys, please be respectful and let the ladies base their own opinions in this poll. Sincerity is appreciated.

I've known a few people who have met in online games and are now happily married or are in a long term relationship. It can happen. |

Originally posted by liddokun yeah, I mean essentially it becomes "online dating". No difference. The issues will come if players don't take the time out to really get to know these online "dates" and just go by what they see in chat/vent, etc. Also, long distance relationships have their own issues. You just have to be smart about it. |

You can find Love anywhere, but "finding love" and "love" itself is another topic in itself. If you were to find a mate in a MMORPG it would have to go to the next level such as pictures, phone calls, visits, gifts (maybe). All relationships take time and effort. You can't be in "love" off the bat and you can't just hang in the MMORPG walls of the virtual world and not break into the real and out of the text. It would be...unreal. Relationships can start online and offline, it's just about how you go about it. So can love happen in a mmorpg? Yes, with time and effort. Can it be true? True love is not always a guarantee though (not even love). I want to say it's possible, everything is possible, but it's not something you will stumble opun and find within a few months. It's kinda hard for me to say. I'm trying to focus from an MMORPG aspect and not based on the definition of love itself. I would say yes though.
EDIT To answer your poll, with time and effort if I do see somebody as potental to take a step further I would. I'd get the number we would hang. Friends, to best friends, and on from there. If things go good I would be willing to push and see where things go, but as someone said, distant relationships are DIFFICULT. It takes a lot of strength. |

As long as they take care of their obligations and spend more quality time with each other outside of game worlds as they do inside, then I think any couple can have great relationships with the mate they meet online. If it is all about the box and one or both forget about the real world, then no, the relationships won't last at all.

Well great, I didn't add a 4th option in the poll so guys can simply vote just to see the poll results, but no big deal. I hope some girl later on can post and share the results. Thanks MMORPG! |

Why So Serious? |
It can and has happened but....using say a MMO as a way to meet someone to fall in love is a seriously bad idea though. MMO's aren't dating services ... the love found is usually pretty random and rare. But then so is falling in love. |

Originally posted by elvenangel Yeah but the same can be said for Bars or Clubs or, well, whereever people meet others. It's not really about the "where" but what happens later. I mean, does meeting someone in a bookstore bode well? Heck an ex of mine went out with a guy who later killed a woman in a store. She said she felt that something was weird about him but couldn't put her finger on it. There could easily have been the possibility that she would have been the one to be killed So there are never any guarantees. Of course, because there is a bit of a blinder on meeting someone onine, people need to just take a lot of precautions. But again, it's really just online dating but through a game instead of a website.

Back in 1997 / 1998 , in UO , I met a girl who was 3 years my jr , whole internet thing was safe then or so we thought. Most people in the clan would meet in Yahoo or IRC. She revealed , she lived around 2 hours from me , we ended up meeting and dating til 2002. I think what brought us together was Lineage 1 , the dating was so so , she was into developing rap , and like clubs , while I was more into 80s rock and watching movies. We shared common interest in games , especially in Lineage 1 , where I played the weak pitiful prince and she was a knight. Brought us closer together fighting and seiging, help us develop a strong bond. She moved in with me 2k , we stayed together for 2 years after that, but Amarillo job market was gone , and she was hell bent on staying there. I moved to arkansas , we lost touch for a while. Its a different world now , I ve seen 40 year old guys hit on people as women , I know girl who left home in Eq2 , find out the guy she been talking to used another picture for his face. Online isnt a good place to look for love , especially these days , you d probly even up raped or worst.
