Noone needs to worry. Tasos also say that REAL people do the beta. The AI can do whatever it can to help. Example: They could send thousands of NPCs into a dungeon to look for bugs. Remember, there is no linear gameplay here. Anything goes for anyone.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but as a programmer I am intrigued. Exactly what does a 'Bug' look like & how do you explain to the 'NPCs' how to recognise when they have found one?

Regardless of which side of the DF fence you sit on, you have to admit that their descriptions of how advanced their AIs are did sound a bit waffly, like 'Seven of Nine' & her 'Nano Probes' on 'ST Voyager'.

Something that Darkfall has that other games may lack during testing is help from the AI. In Darkfall the game doesn't really distinguish between a player and the AI. The AI are bots actually living their life and skilling up within the game. The AI has been helping us test a large part of the game almost as if players were in it.

No-one knows how complete the game is apart from Aventurine themselves, but surely when Tasos used the above description he was having a bit of a laugh. It almost sounds like 'The Sims', but what would bots say to each other ?

Bot : 1 "Fancy doing the Dungeon of Dread again"?

Bot : 2 "Nah, we did that yesterday & I am improving my pie baking skills today"

Aventurine quite possibly have written some industrial strength AI code to test aspects of their game, but it's a bit suspicious when they talk about it like it's almost a living member of their team.

Will we find out the answer soon? We can only hope!

This is what you can read from Tasos latest Dev Journal -

Tasos informs us that they can test the game almost as if players were in it. I think youre reading to much into this statement. We know that Darkfall AI is best in class of any MMORPG arround. This just make me wanna play the game the more and i suggest we settle for that. No meaning making statements about issues noone on this board have the fainthest clue about.=)

No, not at all.  I hope their project is true to it's words.  My problem with them is their hype in these so called dev journals.  They claim not to need to market their game, yet they come out with these bold claims that I don't believe Bioware or Blizzard could even pull off.  If they were at gaming conventions showing off their game where we could have hands on play or there were holding these guild betas like what was promised in 2005, then I might feel differently.  But no, they hide behind their fans claiming they don't have to show anything.

What you have to understand is that the reality for small and large development companies differs alot. Aventurine stated very early in their development cycle they wont make advertisments like other larger companies does. They save their money and will let the game speak more or less for itself. And i salute them for this. Why should they as a small company make expensive advertisment campaigns when they need all monet on developing? That would be just stupid. If you want a quote on this from Tasos i can get you one.

The game will own any other MMORPG game out there if it delivers whats promised. Just settle for that and make your own opinion on the game when it is in beta.

And remember, you can test Darkfall out before you buy it. You can actually test the whole game out before you pay 50 cent for it.

That is confidence in your own product if i ever saw one.=)

How can you say "AI is best in class of any MMORPG around"?  Where is your proof of this statement?  All we have is Tasos' word for it, and frankly, his word doesn't mean squat.  They've lost the edge of credibilty with the numerious beta cancellations.  Some say only 3 cancellation.  I say numerous because numerous times Tasos said beta will be here very soon and nothing for months.  When we do here from him some excuse.  What was the last one, oh ya, they had to rework the graphics.

LOL

If DFO devs listened to the fans as much as the fanbois around here say they do, the fans have said since 2004, graphics are not important, it is all about the game play.  Yet, the put us off of beta so they could rework the graphics.

Anyway, please, show me the proof that "AI is best in class of any MMORPG around."  I really want to see the proof of this statement.

You'll have to wait until open beta.

I can't decide if the DF devs are a group of amateurs in over their heads, or if they are promoting DF for nefarious reasons. Either way, the claim that they can rely on AI to test their game is clearly outrageous. I don't need to read the article to understand that. It's just common sense. I'll stop now before I turn trollish.

You mean the open beta they offered in 2003, 2005, or the open beta they suggest in 2006 and 2007? I'm confused. Which open beta are you referring to?
