Okay so my friend recently got back into runescape and i thought you can't be serious. But then i decided to try it out again and see how it had changed. I realised as i was playing that after all the games i have played is runescape really all that bad.

The runescape community has millions of accounts and over 100,000-200,000 people playing each and everyday. It is huge. The game was never made to be fancy with fantastic graphics like WoW or EQ and so on, it was meant to be game for low budget or "crap" computers although some people tried it anyway. The game requires no disk installation and or patching/downloading it is run entirly from your internet browser. This makes it not only convient but also means that you can play with dial-up unlike other downloaded games.

Graphics wise it really isn't all that bad. The graphics are 3D and are not all that poor. If you look at some of the other F2P games with no downloads like ogre island Runescape really doesn't look so bad. The grahics recently have been updated so they looks somewhat better. Games like AO and Eudemeons that have huge downloads although the graphics are somewhat more advanced and detailed they are still based on the same original 3D graphics.

The size of the runescape world is huge. Free players have a number of fun quests and a huge area to explore filled with lots of items, special events for christmas and easter etc and minigames. REcently added features including clan wars and the duel arena have made the pvp part of the game somewhat more open and intresting. With the addition of clan wars proper clans can also be formed. The members area is even larger atleast  3-4x the free player area. With this comes over 50-100 quests completly new sets of armour even more minigames and the PVP is yet again enhanced. (I aploigise if this sounds like an advert) 

The gameplay of the game (skills, fighting etc) is pretty good. The games fighting where you chose the target and your charatcer attacks it is pretty much the same as almost every other MMORPG. The skills system is i believe quite good as you chose what skills you like the best out some 20 skills and can chose to train anynumber of them if not all of them your lvl doesn't determine the skills you can chose but your skills (in the combat selection of skills) determines your lvl. This means you can be a mager, a ranger or a melee fighter or all three with your choice of weapon type Unlike Wow where you have to chose your class. Runescape offers a much more open choice. Should you get sick of combat you can swap to a different form of combat. Weapons also have different styles of attacking e.g. chopping, hacking, smashing etc..) you have the choice of running walking and with higher mage skills teleporting to different areas. you have  lots of different choices of making money whether by selling logs to be made into bows, Fishing and cooking, mining ad smithing, selling herbs, seling arrows and bows, theiving from NPCs, killing things, selling runes and so on.

personally i would not call runescape "bad" many people have attached a label to it because it is free to play and because it is so easy to access a large proportion of what i have seen of the player base is immature and (going off personal experiences here ) pretty stupid and easy to bait

runescape is not a bad game but i think its playerbase ruins it quite a bit

I will definitely agree with you that Runescape is better than Ogre Island. But that is like saying a dish of diarrhea tastes better than a pint of cancer.

Runescape had some really good points before  Jagex killed it. Now yes I would have to say it is that bad. they have taken away the player freedoms that made the game stand out from the rest. By limiting trade they have done away with helping your friends, giving gifts, and being able to give free stuff to new players. They have crippled their pvp with the removal of the wilderness and removal of gambling in the duel arena. The rules are so bad that it appears their entire community is depressed. They will ban your account without cause  because the report abuse features are so misused and they make scammers into player moderators that use the abuse features just to shut up people they ripped off.  Even though they said that all of these terrible updates were supposed to be ridding the game of real  world trading it did not, that is still very much going on  they are just logging on to peoples accounts and giving them the gold that way and selling fully loaded accounts. Hackers are still running rampant and the game has been crippled.  The skills are  insanely boring and repetitive and without reward for you levels. The game is a bunch of boring waiting for everything to happen. You click on rock wait to get ore  then wait for it to respawn, then when you finally get the levels to get to mine runite .. the rocks take forever to mine then like an hour to respawn so you would have to hop to every world on the game just to get a full load.  When you get to chop magics it takes so long to get a log that your charcater will most likely log out before it happens, so players choose not to chop them at all even after they have earned the ability to do so.  When you max out a skill to 99 the only reward you get is s tupid skill cape that only makes everyone follow you around harrassing you to do silly emotes ..   Harrassment is a punishment not a reward. The combat system is so messed up that when you max stats it makes you easier to kill rather than stronger. A player with  spiked stats  will  be more effective in battle  even  if all of the players stats are the highest they can be. There is no wasd movement and it doesn;t take much skill to fight.  In fact there isn;t much skill or thought needed to play this game at all .. just mindless clicking. Though there is a chat filter on the game you have more spamming on that game than any other game I have played. The community is sad, and so is the game at this point.

hah not if you know the many people i know. aside from getting high, they're past time hobby is bashing the game. ofcourse being the logic people that we are... lol we've all played it and yeah there are some interesting aspects to the game, but it is to harsh on many other aspects aside from the obvious. i would say that its 2008 and as the days past the game in my opinion becomes that much more dated. i may not speak for the people that enjoy the game, but for me and the people that dont. i find it to be one of the worst games i've ever played. from when it came til now.

While some of the stuff deviliscious  mentioned at the end was either intended or part of the game from its conception. deviliscious  is right essencially, they killed everything that was fun and good about the game in just a couple patches, the idiots.

The only reason i played runescape was that i liked the PvP and some of the other activitys that could be done with more then one person. Then they, in essence, just deleted their old and very good PvP system and put this piece of crap system in.

And they of course had another genious idea, "hey guys, lets stop players from being able to give each other things for free! i wonder why no other MMORPG's have employed this ingenious tactic before?" 

And if you have played the game, you will know how i felt when the day after i spent 12 hours grinding our the last two magic levels to get 85 magic and teleblock, only to have them remove the spell from the game, and have them add a nifty "kill yourself NOW" button.

Meh, it used to be my favorite MMO, now, in my opinion its totally worthless, hopefully it'll tank and teach the dev's a lesson.
