Especially if you are making a Triple A title, a lot of companies find out hard and fast that it aint as easy as people claim it to be.  Every one just sees WoWs numbers and multiplies it by 14.99, stupidly assuming that is exactly how much Blizz makes a month.  They dont think about the millions and damn near a decade that Blizz spent on developing WoW.

 

So until one of these developers actually releases something that doesnt resemble shit in a box, I will call vaporware.

Cynical? Nope.  Realistic? Yes.  I agree 100% with what he said. 

From what he's saying he automatically thinks every game that isn't made by a big company to be vaporware. This hardly a realistic view.

Maybe not, but most indie developed games today fail, either to release or to be anything but shiess.

Sadly I stopped visiting DFO forums as well. I really hoped it would come out but after I've seen these newer mmorpgs already make presentations (like APB and Earthsiege) I started to wonder why cant DFO do the same?

I still hope it will come out but for the time being DFO simply doesnt exist for me anymore.

Finally something to rival darkfall, other mmos simply don't stand a chance.

Yeah. That whole paragraph was pretty much a textbook definition of cynicism.

Thanks to the dude who gave the link for Mortal. Looks cool. But like many others I think, I'm still interested in darkfall because I follow more than one game at the same time. I'm also following Heroes Journey, and a few unannounced games from major (and not so major) developers like Bethesda, Bioware, Red 5, 38 Studios, etc etc.

I don't understand you guys who come in here to make a scene. Maybe I'm misguided to believe that a game can come out with all of the features I want. But I'm not compromising, so I'll keep following these games because games like AOC and WAR are just that to me, a compromise. And shit, spending hours of my life playing these games is already enough of a compromise.. it better be more interesting than 99% of the games released post EQ1-UO-DAOC-AC or sorry, I'm not interested.

The last video game I've bought in the last probably two years was episode one of Sam&Max (yesterday), where the hell have adventure games gone :( Definitely going to keep playing these.

My point. I think a lot of you guys clogging this board are just bored, cynical sad little people. If AOC and WAR are you kind of game, wonderful. I'm happy for you. But I'm trying to get some info on some games that actually interest me here, and all I see is you whining.

Well, all of these may be vaporware, but if even one of them makes it...at least there will be something interesting out there in a sea of mediocrity.

Small team make the dev time longer but if they have good financial backup i see more advantages being small. They will probably have less hysterical investors breathing down their neck and less risk for a "rushed" game.

 

AoC as example seems a bit "rushed" to me which can be the downfall for that game. NDA is still in and that is a red flag to me and still no open-beta, very much "hush, hush" about AoC which isnt making me believe in Funcom any more. Its good for the pre-orders though if bad publicity is as low as possible. Gamedeveloping costs is one reason for "rushing" the game. Large team is large costs. Add crazy advertisment campaigns to that and youll get a even bigger risk of being "rushed".

Bigger isnt always better.

So i think its a good thing theyre a smaller developing team. Seems the technology also makes a lot of the games todays which seems to make the need for hundreds of Devs unnecessary.

First I've heard of Mortal Online. Looks awesome, let's hope it pans out better than DF did.
