I just couldn't stand the character movement and animations or the character models, thought it was all very poor. Also the UI just didn't speak to me, it looked nearly as ugly as the NGE UI for SWG lol. I didn't like how theres only like 4 races and you can't play like normal and quest as the other side, sure theres monster play but it's just not the same. I hear what they're saying about it not fitting into the lore or w/e but this is a game and it's a bad idea to follow the books that closely as it flaws the game.... you don't make a movie or a book based on a game faithful to it because then you wouldn't really have much at all, just feel that not having the 2 factions really hurts the game. I loved alot of the features like player housing and being able to look different to everyone else with clothes over armor and the SWG styled image designer thing so it's a shame the game just wasn't any good for me. I think I knew I didn't like it withing the first 10 seconds though when I saw the horrible character models in game and the horrible running animations and the UI and all that stuff so it ruined the rest of the trial for me really.
It's a shame how theres not one good mmorpg out there, I mean why can't they make the Half-Life of mmorpgs like the next big revolutionary high quality amazing game, instead of the same old crap all the time :( |

I swear I put it there just a moment ago..... |
I hear what you're saying, the restrictions on playable races were put in place by Tolkien Enterprises and not Turbine though iirc.
They did the best they could working within the framework provided.
I personally didn't enjoy this game either, but I can see why many people would like it though. |

I personally couldn't agree more, I was shocked to see models, textures and movement of a lesser caliber than even Everquest I, and a world so static and uninspired I quit the 7 day trial in 30 mins. I often wonder what its fans see in it. |

LOL another one of these kinds of threads. They pop up like weeds. you want to know what a fan sees in this game. Well being a fan of the game i will try to tell you. It is middle earth. A place i have dreamed about exploreing since i was ten years old. I get to walk around in the places i have only read about. Besides that the game looks stunning on my rig. I don't see the awful character models or ugly UI thie OP is talking about. My character runs how i would expect a person to run. One foot in front of the other. Arms swinging. covering ground faster than walking. Only time he runs funny is when he is injured and then you would expect that since he is injured. How well do you run when you are injured? Grant it they could have differant animation for differant injuries but that is how it is. Sorry about the other faction thing. But as another poster stated that was the call of tolkien enterprise. the ones who hold the rights to the source material. Turbine just has a license to make the game. And said license comes with restrictions that make them answerable to Tolkien enterprise. For the guy who can't download the game. Try to find a person or friend who has the game already. They will have a ten day buddy key or if you already have a trial key all you need to do is use their retail copy of the game to load it on your PC. Though i will tell you it will be one long patching time. Four major updates to patch. |

With a 7 day trial I would think people would try a little more than 30 minutes, that is of course, if they didn't have a preconceived bias against the game already. |

Since when does LOTRo have bad textures and character models? What graphics setting were you on?! The games gorgeous, especially in DX10. One point I do agree on though is the UI, it could be prettier.
But anyone who says this game is ugly needs to re-evaluate their vision...Not to be mean or anything but...Yeah |

The UI is ugly but it is skinable. So you can go to the website that has downlable skins for the UI and pick one you like to look at. Also not to mention that with MOM the UI is getting a overhaul. Turbine has stated they have gone as far as they can with the current UI and will be reworking. We will see a differant mor userfriendly UI with the paid expansion. |
