Yeah Yeah, I get it. Warcraft is a complete carbon copy of the original Warhammer orcs against humans template. Even the steampunk/guns/tanks/etc are basically all from Warhammer... Youd think then, that Warhammer would at LEAST TRY to look different that WoW when they come into their own MMO ? With the exception of the faces and some improvement on character detail this game looks like 2004, chunky monkey cartoon neon graphics that WoW has already given us. They could have really pushed it here and gone for some of the realism and gloss of their RTS games... why didnt they take their own direction?

Why should Warhammer change the way that their art looks? It's familiar to the fans, and it was theirs first.

Its not only the art STYLE that is wayyy too familiar and likened to WoW, but it's the quality. These graphics are pixelated to shit and chunky. |

“Game Experience May Change During Online Play” is about ESRB ratings, not changing game content! |
Again? Or is every member supposed to make our own thread about this? It's the warhammer style -- "look and feel" -- which partially defines the universe. If you don't like stylized content.....oh well.... I'd bemore concerned if another company rolled out a fantasy mmo with this same exact style -- then you can cry foul. |

Ah right on, I think I see what you're saying. Yeah, while I think WoW "set the bar" so to speak in gameplay for MMO's, I hope other games won't simply be satisfied with being on par with what WoW has done. I hope games will keep trying to improve upon what WoW has kind of set the industry standard for. |

Originally posted by dmxkrew you're right, wow looks very similar to traditional warhammer theme, both in story and in artwork...
why should warhammer change because wow is big and successful?
additionally, wow simply put, looks old and more disproportionate...ie the size/shape of alliance buildings as an example.
Warhammer online not only does warhammer offer a newer graphics engine, but it also offers a different style that is a step more towards realistic proportions.
but frankly you weren't looking for discussion and i know this..you're just trolling
I'm ok with you playing another game, I won't miss you a bit. |

NO!!!
Quite the contrary -- I have two collector's editions on preorder. I'm just concerned after seeing the latest screens I'd assumed much would have improved since EforAll in terms of animations and look... Im just being honest for me I felt like I was playing a WoW Battleground when I play-tested it. I didnt have that "ohhh woahhhhh" moment that I had wanted. Ill admit the characters looked cool but I was looking for that warhammer style but REALLY pushed graphic-engine wise. Unfortunately that didnt happen. |

Originally posted by Randem Simple, because it's been done to huge success recently and we don't need any more right now. Here's the thing: I have no doubt that War:AOR is going to play/feel/act diffrently to WoW, but it's going to look exactly the same because WarCraft and Wahmmer are conceptually practically identical, owing to WarCraft having been from it's very beggining a completely blatant and thoroughly unashamed rip-off of Warhammer. Here's my take, and while this is MY OPINION, I'm sure I'm not alone: I played WoW for years. I am not a WoW hater. I had a lot of fun playing WoW. But I am done with WoW. Like I said I'm sure War:AOR is a very diffrent game, and probably a very good game, but I just spent SO much time playing WoW that I look at War:AOR and see a bunch of places I've already been and I really don't want to go back. That whole style... just... no more. I can't take it, I really can't. I think a lot of players out there need something that is in no way similer, gameply or artistically to WoW, and I think those who don't are still playing WoW and aren't likly to stop any time soon (and may God have mercy on their souls). Now that said, obviously there is a market out the War:AOR and there are a lot of people looking forward to it, and I hope it's everything those people want it to be. But if a lot of gamers are turned off because of this games (even superficial) similarities to WoW, it should be and understandable reaction. And yes, Warhammer was the first to come up with the art style, but WarCraft was the first to make it into a go-gillion subscribber MMORPG, as they say: Thems the bricks.... or something. |
