I voted for 'Troopers'. I like the Firefly idea, but the all out action of fighting for Earth's survival against the alien bug invasion would be a fun MMOG.
EDIT-- Gah,.. Now you went and changed the poll. Well the popularity of BSG is through the roof and Star Wars is the bread to Star Treks butter, in sci-fi, but I think fighting for the human race would be a blast. I'd pick BSG but there's only one Battlestar and I'd hate to be the laundry dude in a MMO. lol So, since I'm looking for something different, it's between Space Above and Beyond and Starship Troopers. I'm sticking with 'Troopers' it's a good base for Massive battles in a MMOG. Did I mention the overwhelming odds against us, laser guns and orbital bombardment? ..Nukem Rico! P.S.- In sci-fi/fantasy, I like the sci-fi better. So, really anything would be fun. I think Alien(s) should stay an SP game, unless, there's the Alien vs. Predator twist with us lowbie humans stuck in the middle. Chronicles of Riddick would be a great sandbox if Riddick was an NPC, like Conan is in AoC, and it would be a real MMORPG. Dune could be done well with the 3 factions, as well, and yeah B5 would just rock as a MMO. So, I'd stay with Startship Troopers from the list, and I follow on with the assumption that a new Star Wars and the first Star Trek MMO's will be released, eventually. But, a Riddick or B5 sandbox would be my ultimate choices. * Life is not black or white, it's shades of grey. But, at it's best/worst, it hints at 32bit color. -Me (a.k.a. RuthlessTimes) * I do not need to know how to make a better game than you. I just need to know how to cancel my subscription. -Antarious(a slight misquote but the sentiment remains) |

Why should I restrict myself to just those two options? Toss a few more in there:
Ok, so I show my age on a few of those, and not all are pure sci / fi, but all would make interesting world seetingg for an MMO. Some are already well defined, others less so, which leaves more room for creativity. The though is don't limit yourself to just two options. I personally would love to play a Technomancer in a Babylon 5 MMO.
edit: LOL, you changed the poll while I was typing Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do. |

Either a Firefly or a KOTOR Star Wars MMO. Sandbox and mothing for kids would be the best i think. |

Rifts zomg, that would be awesome! But only if they truly stuck to the IP... "Ok, you can play the Juicer who is 2x more powerful than other players but he he'll get permanently deleted after 3 months. Here's a nice fat timer in your upper left corner of the screen." "Here's Crazy. He is a superhero. But each time you use his superpowers there's a chance he goes psychotic either killing allies, himself or just doing something really embarrasing." "Glitterboy. Here's your imba-leet power armor but be careful when taking a leak because without it you're nothing..." Oh joy! |

I'm looking forward to Stargate. Especially since they are talking about 'real' scientific classes vs fighting classes only. |

How about an original IP not tied to the bull of somebody else deciding your games direction? Such as... Jumpgate Evolution? Or something from EgoSoft using their X-Series Universe? - CaesarsGhost Lead Gameplay and Gameworld Designer for a yet unnamed MMO Title. |

After finishing the audio book version (unabridged) of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, I say wish to the Starship Troopers MMO idea. Specialization is for insects! -- Brede |

I'd much rather see something not based on an established property. You know, a little originality? That concept seems to be dead these days. Played: UO, EQ, WoW, DDO, SWG, AO, CoH, EvE, TR, AoC, GW, GA, lots more |

Something original and inspired from the imagination. Not a copy of an existing Sci-fi theme. Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981 |

I agree to a point, but I'd love to see a scifi MMO based on some of the crazy ideas of Heinlein. He's my favorite author next to Rand, Asimov, and Tolkien. Some of his works like The Moon is a Harsh Mistress should be a general template as to how attitudes and major characters should be, because they're never wooden and they're often humorous at the right times. But I also would like any scifi MMO to heavily focus on the *science* of the subject. No transporters, no warp drives, no 'magic' basically. It may seem boring, but just being in a big solar system would be just as fun as being in a starwars-like galaxy. -- Brede |
